As a seasoned strategy gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the latest roundup of gaming news has sent shivers of excitement down my spine! From the anticipated releases to the unexpected surprises, this week’s lineup is nothing short of a dream come true for us strategy enthusiasts.
Each passing week brings fresh strategy gaming updates from around the web! This time, we’ve got a new expansion for Hearts of Iron 4, an emerging rival to Stellaris, Battle of Britain nearing release, Broken Arrow moving into open beta, and MicroProse publishing a game reminiscent of Red Alert 2.
Here’s an interesting detail: This news piece is extensive enough that I needed to divide it across two pages, so don’t forget to explore both!
Giveaway Winners Have Gotten Their Games
Firaxis recently hit over a million views on their channel, and as a token of appreciation, they teamed up with Hooded Horse, Slitherine, Matrix, Wargame Design Studio, and Microprose to host a giveaway! The winners are you, congratulations! A total of 50 game codes were given away. Make sure to check your emails to see if you’re one of the lucky recipients.
I’m equally thrilled by the encouraging messages I got from many of you. It truly means a great deal, so thank you for your kindness.
Hearts of Iron 4 New DLC
As a dedicated gamer, I’m thrilled to share that Hearts of Iron IV has unveiled their latest expansion, Götterdämmerung. If you’re sharp-eyed and have been following the game closely, you might have guessed this is all about Germany. This exciting DLC is set to overhaul the focus trees for Germany, Austria, Hungary, and Belgium. It offers an opportunity to design unique projects and develop sophisticated weaponry. There’s also a fresh type of operation called Raids that promises a new layer of strategy. And here’s something that might intrigue every player – the AI is getting a significant upgrade in its offensive capabilities, making our gaming experience even more challenging and rewarding!
Broken Arrow Open Beta
The highly anticipated game of 2024, now scheduled for release in 2025, will begin its Open Beta phase for multiplayer on November 12th. If you’ve been unaware, Broken Arrow is a real-time strategy game similar to Eugen System’s “wargame” series, but with a unique twist: it slows things down and emphasizes infantry, making urban combat the main event. Plus, it sets the action in modern times.
Battlefall: State of Conflict Announced
Microprose continues to expand its collection with fresh titles, and the latest addition is Battlefall: State of Conflict, a real-time strategy game set in the wreckage of Earth where factions clash. Although it seems exciting, to me it’s reminiscent of Red Alert 2, and I’m eager for that experience. I just hope they improve the explosion effects since they appear incongruous. If you’re interested, a demo is available for you to test out.
Beyond Astra Is a Stellaris Competitor
This one bumped into me while I was perusing the internet for news. Being developed by Nebule Games, Beyond Astra is a real-time 4X sci-fi strategy game very much in the vein of Stellaris. This one also has a demo available on Steam.
Scramble: Battle of Britain Entering Early Access
An unexpected email from Slitherine alerts us (and everyone else) about the upcoming Early Access release of Scramble: Battle of Britain on October 29th. Although this might be unusual for a company like Slitherine, they justify their decision by stating that Scrample: Battle of Britain features an innovative gameplay system, and they believe it will greatly benefit from player feedback. You can try out the demo of Scramble: Battle of Britain on Steam.
Realpolitiks 3: Earth and Beyond Announced
I’ve never started a Realpolitiks game before, for no specific reason – I simply haven’t had the chance to play them yet, leaving me unsure about their quality. However, with Real Politiks 3 being its third iteration, it seems that there must be something special about it. What sets this version apart is that the game now extends beyond Earth, allowing players to expand their nation throughout the entire Solar System. This space-faring concept sounds both preposterous and intriguing, so I’m eager to see how they pull it off.
