Strategy and Wargaming News – 18th May – Europa Universalis 5 Announced, Dawn of War – Definitive Edition, Runequest: Warlords

Hey there, folks! Hope this message finds you all doing swell! I reckon it might’ve struck you that I went silent last week. Truth be told, I was knee-deep into tackling a humongous task at my day job, and let me tell you, it drained every bit of energy I had. But fear not, I’m here now with renewed vigor, and boy, do we have some thrilling updates to share!

Europa Universalis 5 Was Announced And It Amazed Me!

Recently, a sneak peek at the upcoming game in the Europa Universalis series was hinted at a few months back. Now, the official announcement has been made, and I must say, I’m utterly amazed by the apparent level of detail the game promises. Those who have played it concur that Europa Universalis 5 is heading in the right direction, and it seems this could be Paradox’s most expansive game yet. Given the extended timeline they’ve incorporated, even delving into medieval historical events like the Hundred Years War, I suspect this will serve as a foundation for future games. As of now, there’s no confirmed release date, but I anticipate it will hit the market in 2025.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Definitive Edition Is Happening!

The Warhammer Skulls festival is currently underway, offering discounted games from the popular franchise on Steam! However, what truly stands out is the recent announcement of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Definitive Edition. This news has sparked widespread enthusiasm among gamers. Known for its exceptional gameplay and a cherished choice among strategy enthusiasts, Dawn of War holds a significant place in many players’ hearts. The Definitive Edition promises to include all 9 armies, all 4 campaigns, 4K resolution, enhanced textures, improved camera and lighting, and 64-bit modding support. It’s thrilling to see this classic game return after 21 years, having initially made a mark in the real-time strategy (RTS) scene.

Warhammer Skulls Festival Is Going On

For enthusiasts of the franchise or those new to it in digital format, the Warhammer Skulls Festival is an excellent opportunity to acquire fantastic titles at discounted prices. You’ll find Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector with a 70% reduction, Mechanicus with a 61% discount, and Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters at an all-time low of 75% off.

Blacksmith Master Is A Great Management Game

I’ve been enjoying my time playing Blacksmith Master, a strategy game developed by Untitled Studio and published by Hooded Horse. This game offers an engaging experience of creating armor, weapons, and tools. Watching numbers increase gives me a satisfying sensation in my brain. However, I may have expanded my business too quickly, as the game depicts multiple blacksmiths working together to assemble materials. My workshop currently employs 50 workers who produce affordable items, which might reflect my capitalistic tendencies. In truth, I’ll be writing a brief review soon, because the game is both enjoyable and inexpensive.

Wargame Design Studio Has a Lot Going On

The creative minds behind the website and strategic game developers, Wargame Design Studio, have multiple projects underway. As such, we ask for your patience while we thoroughly review their latest creations.

  • The second entry in the Sword & Siege series has been announced and it’s called – Age of Longbow Volume I: Hundred Years War, coming right hot on the tail of Crusades: Book I, which has become a massive success for them. Age of Longbow will be mostly focused on open field battles, unlike the siege-concentrated Crusades. I have already let them know I’ll be expecting Portugal to make a show in Aljubarrota, otherwise we will have problems.
  • Panzer Campaigns Poland ’39 has been released and it’s a game that covers the complete German and Soviet campaign between September 1 to October 3, 1940. There are a total of 77 scenarios, with the longest one being 348 turns in length.
  • If, however, you’re a guy who would rather have a fight against the Soviets, then this week’s WDS Game of the Week, Panzer Campaigns: Kharkov ’42 might be better suited to your tastes. The game comes with 69 scenarios and covers the 2nd Battle of Kharkov, from May 12th to May 29th of 1942.

RuneQuest: Warlords Looks Like Turn-Based Fun

According to my discerning view, the recently unveiled strategy game by Slitherine, RuneQuest: Warlords, appears to share the same platform as Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector, a highly acclaimed title. In this upcoming game, players will assume the character of Hahlgrim, a tribal leader from Talastar’s Bilings, rallying forces to counteract the advance of Chaos. The game seems engaging, and I’m eager to witness its development.

Critical Moves New Episode

The Critical Moves team convened during the Warhammer Skulls Festival for a lively discussion about their favorite games within the renowned franchise, highlighting those that offer enjoyable gameplay and are worth investing in. Don’t miss out on their engaging conversation; they’re an entertaining group, and although my exceptional skills might be absent from this particular episode, they still manage to deliver an impressive show.

Civilization 7 Tone-Deaf Advert

Two Popular Strategy Warhammer Games Delisted

On May 20th, Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach and Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon were removed from Steam. The publisher, Slitherine, hasn’t given a reason for this delisting, but it’s likely due to licensing costs. Fortunately, you can still buy these games on GoG.com, and if you already owned them before, they should still be in your account, so there’s no need to worry about losing access to the games.
