This week has been relatively calm, yet some intriguing updates from Firaxis have surfaced. Take a moment to unwind, brew yourself a soothing cup of coffee, and let’s catch up on this week’s Firaxis news.
Burden of Command Teases a Release Date
Within a few days, we’ll learn the date when we set sail for the Western Front, as the developers of Burden of Command are preparing to unveil the game’s launch date. I’m absolutely thrilled about it!
Company of Heroes 3 Free For This Weekend
It’s astounding how two years have flown by since Company of Heroes 3 was released. There has been significant progress since then, particularly after Relic Entertainment broke free from their corporate masters and gained creative control over the series. If you’re interested, take a look at the video for an in-depth look at the team’s work. Now that I’m discussing it, I find myself eager to dive back into the game to see if improvements have been made. You too can experience this, as the game is currently free for a limited time. Perhaps I’ll write a review of Company of Heroes 3 soon; let me know if you’d like to read that.
Two-Point: Museum Is a Massive Success
Two Point Studios consistently delivers exceptional games. For instance, ‘Two Point: Hospital’ quickly became a beloved classic, while ‘Two Point: Campus’ transformed the task of managing rowdy students into a tycoon-style challenge. Their latest release, ‘Two Point: Museum’, is already captivating gamers, turning them into museum managers and history enthusiasts. It’s truly satisfying to witness such high-quality productions.
Tank Squad Coming Along Nicely
I’m really excited to find out how great Tank Squad turned out. I’ve played it twice during Steam Fests before, and while it sparked my interest, it didn’t quite live up to expectations. But since then, the team has been working diligently, and it seems like this is one of those instances where a game was shown prematurely, and could have benefited from more development time. However, this appears to be the authentic German armored forces experience, as you’ll spend as much time repairing that over-complicated tank that got damaged by a Russian tank, held together by rusty rivets, frozen vodka, and faith in Stalin, as you will on the battlefield.
Field of Glory: Kingdoms – Rajas and Tribes
At long last, Field of Glory: Kingdoms is set to release its inaugural DLC, titled Rajas and Tribes. Instead of focusing primarily on Europe, this expansion will transport players to the Indian subcontinent and northern Africa. The game map has been extended to encompass territories as far east as Delhi, and southward towards the Kingdom of Ghana and Ethiopia. With this add-on, you can expect fresh mechanics for nomadic and tribal nations, custom buildings unique to these regions, new objectives for war, two additional scenarios, and a multitude of new playable nations to explore.
The Old World Keeps Getting Better With New DLC
Three years ago, Hooded Horse unveiled Old World: Civilization’s counterpart, which has consistently received fresh DLC content since then. Recently, the expansion pack Old World: Wrath of Gods was launched, enriching the core gameplay by incorporating nine natural disasters as calamities. Alongside this, a new scenario, 200 events, 26 projects, 8 character traits, and additional missions to bolster your nation were introduced. A revised map script offers unique settings that alter the terrain during gameplay, making mountain ranges traversable and coastlines retreating. This dynamic landscape presents fresh strategic challenges. Perhaps, Civilization VII could learn a thing or two from this update.
Planet Coaster 2 Is Getting It Together
Following a challenging debut, the creators of Planet Coaster 2 regrouped and drafted an effective strategy to address several concerns raised by players: performance glitches, technical difficulties (such as inefficient pathfinding and units becoming stationary), limited ride options, and even absent themes. The new design features curved plumes instead of flat ones, enhancing the realism of the physics, and the rafts now distort as well. Progress is evident, with Steam reviews swiftly transitioning from a mix of opinions to predominantly positive feedback.
Battlefall: State of Conflict Goes Early Access
Microprose is set to introduce another title to its growing collection on March 11th, as Battlefall: State of Conflict, a post-apocalyptic real-time strategy game, enters Steam Early Access. The trailer suggests that this RTS shares some resemblance with classic games like Command and Conquer or Red Alert.
Age of Darkness: Final Stand Review
After a while, I managed to take a look at Age of Darkness: Final Stand, an RTS game that’s solid but not exceptional, similar to They Are Billions. If you’re considering purchasing it or just want to know my opinion on it, feel free to check out my review for more details.
