Firaxis To Feature In The Hotseat

This week’s Firaxis News update is a little different – it’s coming from me! I’m excited to announce I’ll be participating in The Hot Seat, a livestream event hosted by Slitherine on January 28th. Joining me will be Ian Fischer, a well-known name from Age of Empires 2, and Patrick Streppel, the Chief Product Officer at Jumpgate AB.
They might be discussing important industry news, but I’ll be on the livestream to share some fun stuff – you’ll have to tune in to find out what it is! Here’s a sneak peek: Slitherine and I are hosting our own Game of the Year Awards, and we want you to decide the winners!
The Hot Seat is a monthly show hosted by Marco Minoli, Slitherine’s Marketing Director, where he has detailed conversations with strategy game developers and other industry experts. You should definitely watch it on January 28th at 6 pm CET – you can find it on YouTube and Twitch.
Turn-Based Strategy Games Market To Reach $15.2 Billion By 2033

I just saw a report that says the turn-based strategy market is worth around $6.9 billion this year, and it could hit $15.2 billion by 2033! Apparently, more and more people of all ages are getting into strategy games. It makes sense why my list of the best turn-based strategy games for 2026 did so well – everyone’s searching for cool new games to play!
Strategos Brings Ancient Warfare Into 2026

Strategos is a hit! It’s already made it onto my list of 10 Best Medieval and Ancient Strategy Games, and players on Steam are loving it – it has a ‘Very Positive’ rating. It’s great to see a unique strategy game like this succeed.
War In Spain 1936-1939 Out Now

Unless you regularly follow gaming news and strategy, you might have missed the recent release of War in Spain 1936-1939. This game aims to be the most detailed and accurate portrayal of a significant conflict of the 20th century. I received a review copy from Matrix and Slitherine, but haven’t had a chance to play it yet. I hope to be able to share my thoughts on it soon, ideally by the time you read this.
