Street Fighter 6 Contest Hit With AI Art Controversy

A current art competition for Street Fighter 6, which just started, has sparked a debate due to the apparent use of AI by one winner in their submission. Capcom, the game’s publisher, has spoken out about this unfortunate incident. Members of the Street Fighter 6 community are expressing dismay that the AI-created artwork advanced to the final round, as AI was clearly not allowed according to the contest guidelines.

Ever since its debut in 2023, “Street Fighter 6” has astonishingly sold over five million copies. With the game now available on Nintendo Switch 2 as a day-one release, this figure is expected to soar even higher. Enthusiasts of this classic series are always eager to express their fondness for its personalities and settings, and Capcom recently held a contest inviting players to create artwork for each fighter. The winners’ pieces would be incorporated into the ‘Here Comes a New Challenger’ screen. Predictably, submissions poured in once the competition started. Regrettably, one entry garnered attention for an unfavorable reason.

At present, enthusiasts can cast their votes for their preferred Street Fighter 6 character artwork on the main site, as the contenders have been determined. Although numerous entries amazed fans with their originality and expertise, the selection for Kimberley, submitted by user Lilithascends on Twitter, immediately stood out to many viewers as being unique. Numerous fans noted that the work appeared AI-generated, and upon investigation, Capcom disqualified the entry. The artist in question subsequently erased their online presence, which suggests they may have violated the regulations. Voting continues until August 4, so Street Fighter 6 aficionados are urged to make their picks before time expires.

Artist Accused of Using AI in Official Street Fighter 6 Art Competition

This month, Capcom announced a partnership between “Street Fighter 6” and the well-known K-pop group Aespa. Collaborations with fighting games are quite frequent, as Overwatch 2 unveiled character skins inspired by its title in May, while aspects of Street Fighter were incorporated into Destiny 2 last year.

Mark your calendars for August 5th if you’re keen on expanding your roster! That’s when the renowned Muay Thai master, Sagat, will join the game. The Outfit 4 update is also set to drop on that day, offering fresh swimwear options for Cammy, Luke, Chun-Li, Manon, Jamie, Kimberly, and A.K.I.
