In the upcoming update for Street Fighter 6, loyal fans will receive a delightful surprise: a fresh track from renowned composer Yoko Shimomura, who has contributed to previous Street Fighter games like Street Fighter 2. Capcom has been consistently expanding the Street Fighter 6 roster since 2023, introducing a blend of familiar faces and new characters through regular DLC updates. The latest additions to Street Fighter 6 include the new antagonist A.K.I., Rashid from Street Fighter 5, Ed from Street Fighter 4, iconic villains Akuma and M. Bison, as well as Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui from Fatal Fury.
In the upcoming DLC for Street Fighter 6, we’ll see the return of Elena, a formidable combatant known for her powerful Capoeira fighting style that has been knocking out opponents since the early days of Street Fighter 3 in 1997. Elena will make her comeback to the Street Fighter 6 roster on June 5, which marks her debut in a mainline Street Fighter game since Ultra Street Fighter 4 in 2014. This news is thrilling for longtime Street Fighter enthusiasts, but it seems that Capcom has another blast from the past in store for the next major update of Street Fighter 6.
According to the official tweet from Street Fighter’s account, the June 6 update for Street Fighter 6 will include a brand new song composed by Yoko Shimomura, who is famous for creating the original soundtrack for Street Fighter 2. This track, titled “Edge of Triumph,” has an energetic rock vibe reminiscent of the classic Street Fighter 2 songs that Shimomura produced in the early 90s.
Street Fighter 6 Elena Update Release Date
- June 5, 2025
Many players continue to view “Street Fighter 2” as not just a standout game within its series, but also among fighting games generally. This high regard is partly due to the game’s legendary soundtrack, featuring distinct themes for each of the original 12 characters from “Street Fighter 2”. Themes for Ken and Guile in particular are particularly well-liked, with Guile’s music even inspiring a humorous meme where fans add Guile’s tune to various things.
Beyond the realm of Street Fighter, Yoko Shimomura has contributed to other iconic series such as Kingdom Hearts, Mario & Luigi, and Super Mario RPG. She later went back to Street Fighter to create a fresh rendition of Dhalsim’s theme from Street Fighter 2 in 2003. However, “Edge of Triumph” marks her debut as the creator of an entirely original track for the series after almost 34 years. Players will be able to enjoy her latest composition when the next update for Street Fighter 6 drops on June 5, under the Character BGM Settings menu.
