Strongest Pirate: Oda Has Already Revealed The Secret Descendant Of Joy Boy in One Piece

This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf Arc.

The anime and manga series One Piece is now focusing on the Elbaf storyline, and with the recent reveal of details about God Valley, things are expected to become even more thrilling. Although God Valley was mentioned about six years ago, its full story wasn’t shown until the current Elbaf arc.

Initially, many fans thought the story of God Valley centered around Rocks, Roger, and Garp. However, it’s now evident that the island’s true significance lies with just two characters: Blackbeard and Shanks. Oda seems to have preserved the bloodline of Davy – someone Imu greatly fears – within Blackbeard, but he may have actually preserved the bloodline of Joy Boy within Shanks, a possibility that has surprised even the most dedicated fans.

Shanks Could Be The Descendant Of Joy Boy

Shanks Is The Child Of Destiny

  • Shanks came from God Valley, the Island of Fate
  • Imu Fears Davy and Joy Boy the most
  • Blackbeard is Davy, Shanks could carry Jou Boy’s blood

The events at God Valley in One Piece are proving to be far more significant than originally thought. While many believed God Valley would simply reveal the story of the Rocks Pirates, it’s actually a story about the entire Davy lineage. The Rocks crew was defeated there, but a new member of the Davy family survived: Marshall D. Teach, better known as Blackbeard.

Dorry and Brogy were surprised by the Haki, wondering if it was more powerful than Shanks’ and noting it didn’t feel threatening at all. They were commenting on Joy Boy.

The spirit of the Davy Back Fight still resonates in Teach, and fans understand this connection. It now clarifies why Oda named God Valley the “Island of Fate.” But the story of God Valley isn’t solely about Blackbeard; it also centers around two crucial characters, Shanks and his twin brother, Shamrock.

As many fans are aware, Shanks and Shamrock were both born in God Valley to a woman with red hair whose identity remains a mystery. Oda has intentionally kept her name and appearance hidden for a specific reason. While many believe Shanks might be connected to the Celestial Dragons because of Garling, it’s important to remember that his mother came from God Valley – a place with a significant destiny.

Chapter 1164 of One Piece reveals that Oda, the author, considers Davy Jones and Joy Boy to be the two most formidable figures. Imu echoes this fear, stating they must never return. Interestingly, the chapter shows Shanks and Blackbeard being rescued from God Valley. Adding to the mystery, Shanks is referred to as the ‘Child of Destiny,’ leading fans to speculate that he might actually be a descendant of Joy Boy, possibly through his mother who was present at God Valley.

Shanks Inherited The Strength Of Joy Boy

Oda Directly Compared Their Haki In Egghead

I’ve noticed some compelling evidence suggesting a connection between Shanks and the legendary Joy Boy. Beyond the hints Oda has dropped in the story, there’s a striking visual parallel. When Oda showed us a silhouette of Joy Boy through Queen Otohime on Fishman Island, it looked remarkably like Shanks – same hair, even the cape. It’s hard not to see the resemblance.

During the Egghead arc, Oda briefly showed what Joy Boy’s Haki looked like, and fans noticed it was remarkably similar to Shanks’s. Hints throughout the story suggest Shanks might be descended from Joy Boy through his mother’s side of the family. This would mean Shanks has a connection to both the D clan and the Celestial Dragons, potentially making him the character destined to fulfill the ancient prophecies.

One Piece Chapter 1165 is scheduled for release this week, as usual on Sundays. While it becomes available in Japan at midnight on Monday (JST), most international fans will be able to read it on November 9, 2025. The official release date is November 9th, and the chapter will be available for free on Manga Plus.
