Highlights
- Gen 4 brought an innovative 3D style to Pokemon with the well-received Diamond & Pearl games.
- Stronger creatures like Garchomp, Lucario, and Gallade stood out among fan favorites.
- Some Pokemon in Diamond & Pearl have superior stats, making them more powerful choices.
As a seasoned Pokemon trainer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen it all – from the humble beginnings of Red and Blue to the current generation of games that offer an almost limitless roster of creatures to catch. And among them all, there’s one creature that continues to leave me in awe: Arceus.
In 2007, the world was introduced to the next phase of the Pokemon series through the launch of games Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. These releases were generally met with approval, and critics commended their groundbreaking approach as the franchise transitioned to a more three-dimensional style.
In the world of Diamond and Pearl, there exist numerous impressive Pokémon, with some, such as Garchomp, Lucario, and Gallade, earning particular affection from fans. This generation is renowned for housing a significant number of Mythicals, Legendaries, and other remarkable creatures. Nevertheless, it’s important to note that not all Pokémon in Diamond and Pearl have equal power; some boast superior statistics compared to others.
17 Luxray
Base Stat Total: 523
- Type: Electric
- Where To Find In Diamond & Pearl: Evolve Luxio
With a base stat total of 523 points, Luxray is an electric-type Pokemon that boasts an excellent typing. This makes it particularly effective against opponents weak to electricity. However, be mindful that it has a sole vulnerability to Ground-type attacks. On the positive side, Luxray benefits from resistances to Electricity, Flying, and Steel. Furthermore, its STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) moves deal super effective damage to Water and Flying types. The only significant drawback is that Dragon, Grass, and Ground types are immune to Luxray’s electric attacks.
In statistical analysis, Luxray doesn’t perform optimally despite having a strong Attack and decent Special Attack. However, it’s relatively sluggish with below-average defenses, making it vulnerable to opponent attacks. For trainers looking to utilize Luxray’s excellent typing and stats, this Pokemon is an accessible choice. Notably, Shinx, Luxray’s precursor, can be found readily on Routes 202, 203, and 204.

16 Torterra, Lucario, & Dusknoir
Base Stat Total: 525
- Type: Grass/Ground (Torterra), Fighting/Steel (Lucario), Ghost (Dusknoir)
- Where To Find In Diamond & Pearl: Evolve Grotle (Torterra), Evolve Riolu (Lucario), Evolve Dusclops (Dusknoir)
Torterra
Tортера is a unique Pokemon with a Grass/Ground typing. The combination of Grass and Ground isn’t the most harmonious. Although Tортера’s STAB moves can deal super effective damage to seven different types, neither Grass nor Ground can inflict neutral damage on Pokemon that are Grass, Bug, or Flying type. Furthermore, Tортеra has several weaknesses: a 4x vulnerability to Ice, as well as additional weaknesses to Bug, Flying, and Fire. However, it does have some defenses, with resistances to Rock, Ground, and an immunity to Electric types.
Lucario
Lucario is a unique Pokemon with both Fighting and Steel types. This duality offers an offensive edge to the typically defensive Steel-type Pokemon. With just three vulnerabilities to Ground, Fire, and Fighting types, Lucario boasts an impressive six resistances, two of which are quadruple, and it’s completely immune to Poison attacks.
In an offensive manner, Lucario’s STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) moves can deal super effective damage to six different types of Pokémon. No single type is immune to both Fighting and Steel, making Lucario a unique and powerful Pokémon. With impressive Attack, Special Attack, and Speed stats but average defenses, its role is clear: it’s a swift mixed attacker, capable of entering battles safely and dishing out significant damage using its formidable type combination. Riolu (Lucario’s pre-evolution) can be obtained as an Egg at the end of Iron Island, but only if your party has room for fewer than six Pokémon. Once hatched, Riolu will evolve into Lucario once it has a high friendship level during daytime hours.
Dusknoir
Dusknoir is a Pokemon with a single Ghost-type allegiance, making it an excellent choice. It boasts just two vulnerabilities – to Dark and itself, if we consider its Ghost typing. On the positive side, it exhibits resistance to Bug and Poison types, and is completely immune to Normal and Fighting attacks. The Ghost-kind moves inflict neutral damage on all other Pokemon types, except for Normal and Dark. However, it takes double damage from Psychic moves, and deals self-inflicted damage of the same magnitude.
Dusknoir boasts strong defense and attack abilities, but its low health points make it less durable in battles. You can find Duskull, its pre-evolution, along Route 224 with the Poke Radar in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, and frequently on Routes 209, the Lost Tower, and Turnback Cave.

15 Empoleon & Mamoswine
Base Stat Total: 530
- Type: Water/Steel (Empoleon), Ice/Ground (Mamoswine)
- Where To Find In Diamond & Pearl: Evolve Prinplup (Empoleon), Evolve Piloswine (Mamoswine)
Empoleon
As a devoted fan, I’d express it this way: Empoleon is the evolved form of my beloved Water-type starter Piplup from the fourth generation. Its unique Water/Steel typing sets it apart with nine resistances and an immunity to Poison. This remarkable combination is paired with impressive Special Attack and Defense stats, making Empoleon a truly exceptional Pokémon in my collection.
In the games Diamond and Pearl, Empoleon is the evolved form of the Water-type starter Pokémon that players can choose from the very start. If a player initially selected a different starter but later wants Empoleon, they would need to obtain it through trading with other trainers who have the Pokémon in their games.
Mamoswine
Mamoswine boasts a remarkable offensive capability with its Ice/Ground typing, coupled with an impressive Attack stat and above-average Speed. Add to that its captivating design and amusingly punny name, making it a cherished fan favorite among Pokémon enthusiasts. You can encounter Wild Swinub in swarms on Route 217.

14 Infernape
Base Stat Total: 534
- Type: Fire/Fighting
- Where To Find In Diamond & Pearl: Evolve Monferno
Infernape is the final evolution of Sinnoh’s Fire-type starter, Chimchar. With 534 as its base stat total, Infernape is an extremely offensively-focused Pokemon. It has incredibly high Attack, Special Attack, and Speed stats, but unfortunately, it also has very frail defenses. Fire/Fighting is always a great offensive type, allowing its STAB moves to hit seven different types for super effective damage. Infernape can also learn moves that are unusual for its typing, such as Earthquake and Thunder Punch.
As a dedicated gamer of the Diamond and Pearl versions, I’m thrilled to share that Infernape is the evolved form of my favorite Fire-type starter. What makes this exciting is that players have the privilege to obtain it right from the get-go! On the other hand, those who initially chose Turtwig or Piplup need not feel left out. They can still acquire Infernape by trading members of its family from other games.

13 Crobat
Base Stat Total: 535
- Type: Poison/Flying
- Where To Find In Diamond & Pearl: Evolve Golbat
In the second generation of Pokémon, Crobat made its debut as the evolved form of Golbat and the final stage for Zubat, a common Pokémon in Sinnoh. This flying and poison-type Pokémon can be encountered at various locations: Iron Island, Oreburgh Mine, Wayward Cave, Lost Tower (while walking, at all times), Routes 203, 204, 206, 207, 208, 209, 211, and 217. Additionally, it can be found in the tall grass of Acuity Lakefront during nighttime hours, as well as on Ravaged Path and at Oreburgh Gate. In Mt. Coronet, you can find Crobat while both surfing and walking at any time.
As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but be impressed by this particular Pokemon’s flying abilities. With a lightning-fast speed of 130 under my control, it outpaces most opponents in the game, making it an invaluable addition to my team. And that’s not all – its other stats aren’t shabby either! This Flying ‘mon boasts an impressive resistance to four types and immunity to one, making it a formidable force in battle. Admittedly, it does share this enviable statistic with a few Generation 4 Pokemon, but who’s counting? Certainly not me as I soar past my opponents with ease!

12 Magnezone, Rhyperior, Tangrowth, & Porygon-Z
Base Stat Total: 535
- Type: Electric/Steel (Magnezone), Rock/Ground (Rhyperior), Grass (Tangrowth), Normal (Porygon-Z)
- Where To Find In Diamond & Pearl: Evolve Magneton (Magenzone), Evolve Rhydon (Rhyperior), Evolve Tangela (Tangrowth), Evolve Porygon2 (Porygon-Z)
Magnezone
This group of four Pokemon includes newer versions of older species, each having a total base stat of 535. Magnezone boasts an impressive Electric/Steel typing, providing it with ten resistances and one immunity. You can discover Wild Magnemite as a swarm in the Fuego Ironworks location.
Rhyperior
Rhyperior is a formidable creature with an extraordinary amount of health, attack power, and defense. You can find its earlier forms, Wild Rhyhorn and Rhydon, in different locations: Route 227 and 228, or Stark Mountain respectively.
Tangrowth
Tangela from Tangrowth generally boasts appealing statistics, except for its below-average Special Defense and Speed. You can acquire Tangela by moving it from a Generation 3 game.
Porygon-Z
As a gamer, I find Porygon-Z particularly intriguing among its evolutionary line. Unlike what you’d normally expect, it doesn’t level up from Porygon2 to become a more powerful version with improved stats. Instead, think of Porygon-Z as Porygon2 with its stats shuffled around. This unique twist enables both evolutions to exist side by side in the game, which is quite unusual. In the wild, you can only encounter Porygon in the Trophy Garden as a rare encounter.

11 Milotic
Base Stat Total: 540
- Type: Water
- Where To Find In Diamond & Pearl: Evolve Feebas
In the world of Pokemon, the Gracious Pokemon was introduced in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire and gained a reputation for being among the most challenging to catch within the series. This trend continued in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. To obtain this Pokemon, you must first evolve it from Feebas, which can be discovered at just four fishing spots in Mt. Coronet. However, the locations of these spots are unpredictable.
Milotic is an excellent Pokemon due to being a pure Water type, which means it has just two vulnerabilities: Grass and Electric types. On the offensive side, Milotic can inflict significant Special damage using its own type’s moves, such as Surf or Hydro Pump, with a bonus. Moreover, this Pokemon boasts an impressive 125 Special Defense, enabling it to absorb special attacks. Acquiring Milotic might be challenging, but the reward is worth the effort for its remarkable stats.
Milotic’s Base Stats:
HP: | 95 |

10 Blissey
Base Stat Total: 540
- Type: Normal
- Where To Find In Diamond & Pearl: Evolve Chansey
As a long-time Pokemon trainer and avid gamer, I can tell you that there’s nothing quite like coming across a Pokemon that serves as a formidable defensive wall in battle. With its staggering HP stat, this particular creature is sure to leave an impression on even the most seasoned trainers. And let me tell you, I’ve seen my fair share of battles!
As a gamer, I find Normal-types to be quite useful in my Pokemon journey. They have the advantage of only having one weakness against Fighting types and being immune to Ghost-types. This comes in handy when facing trainers like Fantina in Hearthome City, who rely heavily on these types. Additionally, they boast impressive Special Defense stats and a decent Special Attack power. I recommend utilizing them as support Pokemon for your team.
Blissey’s Base Stats:
HP: | 255 |

9 Snorlax
Base Stat Total: 540
- Type: Normal
- Where To Find In Diamond & Pearl: Evolve Munchlax
In the captivating world of Pokemon Diamond & Pearl, Snorlax, the beloved snoozing Pokemon, proves to be quite an elusive catch. Players seeking this cuddly creature will first need to transform its baby form, Munchlax, which is exclusive to this edition. To encounter Munchlax, players must apply honey on specific trees and then patiently wait for six hours. The odds of finding Munchlax are rather slim at just 1%.
As a devoted fan, I’d be thrilled if given the opportunity to include Snorlax in my Pokemon roster. This colossal Pokemon boasts an impressive set of abilities that focus on restoration and power. With Rest, Snorlax can recover its energy during battles, while Sleep Talk allows it to attack even when asleep. Moreover, Snore is a powerful move that deals consistent damage to enemies. Snorlax’s substantial HP, Attack, and Special Defense stats make it an unyielding force in combat situations.

Coronet, Iron Island, Sendoff Spring, Pokémon League, Victory Road, Fuego Ironworks, Oreburgh Gate, Resort Area (Super Rod)
In the game, Gyarados, an instantly recognizable Pokemon with a base stat total of 540, becomes accessible in various locations once you obtain the Super Rod. Alternatively, players can catch a Magikarp and develop it into Gyarados starting at level 20. This weak, water-dwelling Pokémon’s pre-evolution is abundant in Sinnoh, where there’s an ample water supply.
Since the inception of Pokemon franchise in 1996 with Red and Blue versions, this Water-type Pokemon has been a top pick. Its impressive Attack power continues to make it a formidable choice even after 25 years.

As a long-time Pokémon trainer with years of experience battling various types and species, I can tell you that Electivire and Magmortar are two intriguing evolutions that add depth to the original Electabuzz and Magmar. Having witnessed their similarities in stats when not fully evolved, it’s clear that Game Freak aimed to provide these Pokémon with unique identities on the battlefield.
On Route 205 and the Valley Windworks, you may encounter Wild Elekid carrying a FireRed game cartridge at the bottom of their DS. Similarly, on Route 227 and Stark Mountain, keep an eye out for Wild Magby with a LeafGreen game inserted beneath their DS.

Togekiss, with its serene and graceful ability, boasts reliable typing and an impressively varied move set. This exceptional Pokemon is a top choice for trainers, including Champion Cynthia, who includes one in her powerful team. You can discover wild Togepi as a swarm encounter on Route 230.

In the narrative of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, the Lake Guardians hold significant roles. Familiarize yourself with these characters since they make a substantial impact on the storyline. Each of the three guardians is a Psychic type Pokémon, and they all have a base stat total of 580. However, the distribution of those stats varies among them.
As someone who has spent countless hours exploring the vast world of Pokémon games, I can confidently say that each legendary creature holds a unique place in the hearts and strategies of trainers. Based on my personal experience, I’ve come to know Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf as three distinct entities with their own strengths and weaknesses.

- Where To Find In Diamond & Pearl: Evolve Gabite (Garchomp), Stark Mountain (Heatran), Roaming Sinnoh (Cresselia), Received from Pokemon Ranger from Fiore, Almia, or Oblivia (Egg) (Manaphy), Newmoon Island (requires Member Card) (Darkrai), Flower Paradise (requires Oak’s Letter) (Shaymin)
Six Pokémon, each with an impressive base stat total of 600 points, make up this extraordinary tie. Among them are two renowned Legendary Pokémon, three elusive Mythicals, and a Pseudo-Legendary Pokémon.
Garchomp is Gen 4’s pseudo-legendary, a Ground/Dragon-type with good stats all around. Heatran has an amazing type combination and Special Attack, while Cresselia is a pure Psychic-type with phenomenal defenses and HP. As for the Mythical Pokemon, Darkrai is a special attacking beast in every sense, and Manaphy and Shaymin are jacks of all trades for the Water and Grass types respectively.
- Wild Gible (Garchomp’s first evolution) can be found at the Wayward Cave after obtaining the ability to use Strength outside of battle.
- Cresselia becomes a roaming Legendary after first meeting it on Fullmoon Island.
- Heatran can be found at the end of Stark Mountain after returning the Magma Stone.
- Manaphy can only be obtained by transferring its egg from Pokemon Ranger.

it reduces Regigas’s Attack and Speed by half during the initial five turns in battle. Overcoming this hindrance can lead to great rewards for the player, but it requires some effort and strategy.
At the Snowpoint Temple, you can acquire Regigigas by engaging with it. A prerequisite for this interaction is having all three other Legendary Titans (Regirock, Regice, and Registeel) in your team. These Pokémon must be previously obtained from a Generation 3 game and transferred over.

- Where To Find In Diamond & Pearl: Spear Pillar (Dialga) (Diamond only) Spear Pillar (Palkia) (Pearl only) Turnback Cave (Giratina)
As a devoted Pokémon fan, I’d express it like this: In the captivating world of Gen 4 Pokémon, Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina hold the esteemed titles as mascot Legendaries. Each with an impressive base stat total of 680, these dragon-type titans bring unique strengths to the table.
During the pinnacle of their respective games’ stories, encountering Dialga and Palkia is necessary. In contrast, Giratina waits at the conclusion of Turnback Cave.

1 Arceus
Base Stat Total: 720
- Type: Normal
- Where To Find In Diamond & Pearl: Hall of Origin (requires Azure Flute)
As a devoted Pokemon fan, I’d express Arceus in this way: “Arceus is my beloved jack-of-all-trades Pokemon, boasting an impressive stat package with 10 points in each of its 12 stats, summing up to a magnificent total of 720. By nature, it embodies the Normal type, but when holding a precious plate, it transforms into that plate’s corresponding type. What makes Arceus truly extraordinary is its signature move, Judgment. This versatile attack mirrors Arceus’ current form, ensuring it always benefits from Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB).”
Arceus, a coveted Pokémon item, can’t be obtained legitimately. The reason behind this intriguing fact is that the means to acquire it, the Azure Flute, was never distributed. Game Freak co-founder Junichi Masuda shared in an interview that the team deemed the flute too complex for players to utilize effectively, leading to their decision not to release it.
