The series features a diverse cast of heroes, from lively and courageous characters who fight for their friends to quiet, determined individuals who lead by example. These heroes are all incredibly strong, both physically and mentally, because they face incredibly difficult challenges. To save the world, the protagonist and their allies must overcome truly powerful enemies.

Honestly, building up characters like Squall in Final Fantasy VIII is so satisfying. Once you get the hang of Junctions, he becomes a total beast in battle. It’s amazing to watch him pull off Lion Heart and deal 9999 damage with every swing! Seriously, with the Aura spell, he can one-shot most of the bosses once you’ve leveled up enough. It’s a really powerful combo.

6. Terra Branford

Terra is a unique character created through magic, making her half-human and half-Esper – essentially a channel for powerful energy. Even before the game’s story begins, she’s been exploited as a weapon, capable of easily defeating skilled soldiers while piloting Magitek armor. In the world of Final Fantasy VI, magic is rare, and Terra is one of only two characters who can learn spells on their own, without needing to use special items called Magicite.

Terra is already a powerful character, even without using her special ability. When she activates Trance, she transforms into magical energy and becomes significantly stronger, faster, and more dangerous, far exceeding the abilities of most heroes in role-playing games.

While Bartz is versatile, the hero of Stranger of Paradise truly excels at everything. He’s also much more ruthless than most Final Fantasy heroes, and his powerful “Soul Burst” attack reflects that. In terms of story, Jack begins as an incredibly strong soldier and only grows more powerful, eventually becoming capable of defeating even gods.

At the end of Stranger of Paradise, Jack surprisingly transforms into Chaos – the main villain from the very first Final Fantasy game. This explains why he repeatedly defeats the Warriors of Light throughout the story.

Noctis Lucis Caelum is the prince of Insomnia, and he’s caught far from home when the Empire attacks. Because of this, he can’t save his father and must become stronger through his journey.

Unlike many other Final Fantasy games, Final Fantasy 15’s fast-paced combat allows the main character, Noctis, to defeat even the toughest enemies on his own. Battles with bosses like Leviathan and Ardyn demonstrate his power and self-sufficiency. Two key abilities contribute to this: Warp, which lets him move around the battlefield incredibly quickly, and Armiger, which temporarily equips him with a powerful arsenal of thirteen unique weapons.

As a huge fan, I’m still amazed by the Ring of the Lucii! It lets Noctis use spells that just ignore enemy defenses – seriously, it’s a game changer. Alterna, in particular, is unbelievably powerful; it can just melt bosses!

Clive is incredibly powerful, and gets even stronger by absorbing the abilities of other powerful beings called Eikons. Essentially created to be perfect, he doesn’t just control fire – he masters a wide range of elements like lightning, ice, light, and gravity. He’s so versatile, he’s like an entire Final Fantasy team rolled into one character, and could likely take on most parties from other games all by himself.

2. Lightning

The Savior Who Reaches Divinity To Defeat A God

Okay, so if you only played the first Final Fantasy 13, Lightning being where she is on these lists might seem weird. She’s powerful as a human, sure, but man, she gets so much stronger in the sequels. Like, seriously god-like levels of power. And then there’s Claire in Final Fantasy 13-2. She basically becomes the guardian of Valhalla, which gives her crazy magic skills, endless stamina, and she’s practically immortal. It’s wild how powerful both of them become!

Things take a significant turn in Lightning Returns. Lightning is revived by a god-like entity and tasked with saving humanity by collecting their souls before the world ends. She can absorb these souls to gain power, essentially functioning as a living energy source – much like a spirit bomb from Dragon Ball.

Be warned, this discusses the ending of Lightning Returns. By the game’s conclusion, Lightning manages to defeat the god who gave her her powers – a villain far more powerful than anything typically seen in Final Fantasy games. This victory brings about a completely new world and universe. Though she loses her abilities in the process, Lightning briefly becomes one of the most powerful characters ever created.

1. The Warrior Of Light (FF14) & The Adventurer (FF11)

Frankly, It Is Almost Unfair To Even Include These Two

As a huge Final Fantasy fan, I’ve always felt a little disconnected from the main characters in Final Fantasy 11 and 14. They’re designed to be whoever you want them to be, which is cool, but it means they don’t really feel like strong protagonists with their own stories. That being said, when it comes to sheer power and what they’re capable of, these characters are easily the strongest in the whole series! Honestly, only Lightning and Clive at their absolute peak even come close to matching what these MMO heroes can do.

Although both the Adventurer and the Warrior of Light can learn every job and summon heroes for help, they aren’t the same person. The Adventurer draws power from a goddess and is guided by fate, while the Warrior of Light is a piece of a powerful being named Azem, powered by their own feelings. They also faced and overcame completely different, incredibly powerful enemies.

It’s hard to say definitively, but the Warrior of Light from FF14 feels slightly more powerful than the Adventurer from FF11. Ultimately, though, both characters are incredibly strong – it’s just a difference in how powerful they are.
