Strongest Versions of Marvel’s Thanos

Strongest Versions of Marvel's Thanos

As a long-time Marvel enthusiast and comic book aficionado, I can confidently say that these powerful Thanos variants are truly awe-inspiring. Each one possesses abilities that would make even the mightiest of heroes quiver with fear.

Balancing the universe may not involve finding fun, but it certainly brings a smile to his face. As the main antagonist in the Infinity Saga, which is the most-viewed on-screen fictional story arc ever, Thanos has gained significant popularity and is often thought of when people imagine superhero enemies.

He has the strength to match the Hulk, the willpower to match Thor, and sometimes, even the intellect to match Iron Man. Whether it be in the comics or on the screen, Thanos is always shown to be a powerful figure. Here are 5 of the most powerful versions of him.

5 Thanos Original

The Main Mad Titan

Strongest Versions of Marvel's Thanos

  • Universe: Earth-616
  • Reason They’re So Powerful: Is the type of man willing to do anything to impress Death itself.

“The ultimate, power-hungry antagonists who developed an unnatural affection for death. Often seen as Marvel Comics’ counterpart to DC Comics’ Darkseid, this character – Thanos – has been a longstanding and increasingly beloved figure in the Marvel comic book villain roster.

Born among the enigmatic race of Homo Immortalis, or the Eternals – a more illustrious and potent branch of humanity – I found myself different. Carrying Deviant genes within me, my appearance took on an unusual purple hue, and my behavior was marked by the ominous moniker, Mad Titan. With one of the most chilling quotes echoing through the cosmos, “Am I not Thanos? Did I not kill the woman who bore me, condemning myself to this torment known as existence?” I embrace the role of the malevolent antagonist you’ve come to know. A creature driven by an insatiable thirst for power and control, my abilities are a testament to my destructive potential.

Apart from having an extraordinarily high IQ that borders on genius, this character’s Power Grid stats indicate exceptional strength, durability, and speed, particularly when considering his teleportation ability. His only slightly below-par stat is his combat skills, rated at a respectable level of 4. It’s no wonder he has become one of the most frequently adapted Marvel villains across various media platforms, from comics to television and film.

4 MCU Thanos

The Cinematic Mad Titan

  • Universe: Earth-199999
  • Reason They’re So Powerful: His stoic righteousness and indomitable will.

Regardless of fear or evasion, destiny will catch up. The characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe experienced the genuine might of Thanos in Infinity War, a film that broke new ground by concluding with the villain overpowering the heroes and emerging victorious. Thanos left an indelible mark as one of the most impactful villains ever introduced.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I’ve been subtly hinted at as a powerful, enigmatic cosmic king in brief appearances before my formal introduction in Infinity War. When I finally step onto the scene, let me tell you, it’s nothing short of extraordinary. My first moves are to overpower Thor, outfight the Hulk, and off Loki, who used to be the Avengers’ main adversary. From there, my abilities just keep escalating as I claim more Infinity Stones for my Gauntlet, bending reality itself to my whim and thwarting every attempt by the Avengers to halt my cosmic rewrite.

In the Endgame movie, a less experienced version of Thanos from another time showed nearly equal strength when he battled Iron Man, Thor, and a Captain America empowered by Mjolnir. Truly, he demonstrated immense power.

3 Ultimate Thanos

The Ultimate Mad Titan

Strongest Versions of Marvel's Thanos
  • Universe: Earth-1610
  • Reason They’re So Powerful: Improved attributes and cosmic equipment.

In simpler terms, let’s discuss the history of Earth-1610’s Thanos, one of the strongest versions of this character. He uses the Cosmic Cube to assert dominance over the universe, acting as a conqueror. Despite the cube’s destruction, he retains enough power to preserve his reign and oppress those he deems inferior. It takes the collective might of entities like The Fantastic Four, who collaborate on creating a new cube that can eliminate Thanos when he tries to seize more power and control the world.

Similar to other versions of Thanos, Ultimate Thanos boasts exceptional Power Grid attributes, surpassing those of a regular Thanos in certain areas. He holds the maximum possible strength and durability among Marvel characters. Additionally, he has psionic talents that keep him informed about events across multiple solar systems. With the power to release potent dark energy, Ultimate Thanos appears immortal, able to return from the dead, and rumored to be ageless, having not shown signs of aging for millennia.

2 Thanoseid

The Darkseid Titan

Strongest Versions of Marvel's Thanos
  • Universe: Amalgam Comics
  • Reason They’re So Powerful: He’s a combination with a similar and extremely powerful entity.

Among all potential sources of inspiration for the character Thanos, Darkseid stands out as the most likely candidate. Although it’s been stated that Thanos isn’t modeled after Darkseid, the resemblances are striking, and this is further emphasized by the fact that Darkseid was created before Thanos. In popular culture, however, it’s Darkseid who appears to have less recognition compared to the more widely-known version of Thanos from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as opposed to the DC Extended Universe’s portrayal of Darkseid.

In isolation, they are both monstrous heavyweights, power-hungry and megalomaniacal in their own right. When together, however, they become an alarming mix of raw chaos and fear, as demonstrated by Thanoseid. In the Secret Crisis during the Infinity Hour, Thanoseid emerged as the principal antagonist, demonstrating a destructive power of unparalleled carnage, with abilities at their peak from both entities. Additionally, he is known to be a villain in the Thorion saga of the New Asgods, a storyline that inherently evokes the magnitude and cosmic-level threats associated with planet-destroying deities.

In addition, this version of Thanos or Darkseid has occasionally joined forces with Doctor Doomsday, a formidable fusion of two formidable DC and Marvel antagonists.

1 Infinity Ending Thanos

The Thanos Above All

Strongest Versions of Marvel's Thanos
  • Universe: Earth-TRN803
  • Reason They’re So Powerful: He becomes the One Above All

The Supreme Being, famously mighty across the Marvel universe, often resembles the singular deity in Marvel lore. With numerous variations among Marvel characters, their most potent manifestations usually emerge through interaction with the Supreme Being. And Thanos follows suit.

As a gamer in this Marvel multiverse, I’ve seen some pretty impressive characters, but none quite like this Thanos. Unlike other powerful variants I’ve encountered, he didn’t just follow the norm when it came to boosting his abilities. Instead, he went above and beyond. In the Infinity Ending, he took on a variety of formidable entities, including The Living Tribunal and Lady Death themselves, and absorbed their powers. And get this – even The One Above All wasn’t an exception. After besting him, Thanos didn’t stop there; he absorbed his power too. He truly reigned supreme in terms of power within the multiverse.

Unlike other Thanoses who require all Infinity Stones in the Infinity Gauntlet to hold supreme power and alter existence, The One Above All Thanos doesn’t have to take such measures, as he possesses the powers of an omnipotent entity in this form.
