As a long-time follower of the gaming industry and its ever-changing landscape, it never ceases to amaze me how unpredictable this world can be. The closure of Studio Black Flag, also known as Blackflag Games, is yet another reminder of the fragility that exists within our beloved community.
Today marks a melancholy moment as yet another gaming studio, Blackflag Games (formerly known as Studio Black Flag), announces its closure following bankruptcy. This decision has left many questioning the true unpredictability of this dynamic industry, stirring up thoughts and concerns about its stability. The unfortunate event transpired during their ongoing work on the game titled Orphan Age.
Studio Black Flag Declares Bankruptcy and Shuts Down
Given the recent wave of large-scale layoffs and closures in the esports and gaming industry, it’s unfortunate but not surprising to learn about yet another small studio facing difficulties. It’s still a tough pill to swallow, nonetheless.
As a devoted fan, I find myself sharing the disappointing news that Studio Black Flag has unfortunately filed for bankruptcy due to a breakdown in communication with their publisher. Sadly, this situation led to the French government closing down the independent studio as they currently lack any financial backing for the present or future.
Studio Black Flag stated that, given the particular legal complexities surrounding our case, we find ourselves once again sealed away, silenced regarding the circumstances that led to our closure.
This news arrives amidst numerous other businesses in the same sector either ceasing their operations or carrying out widespread job cuts.
In the end, it seems we’ve become another victim of the ongoing slump in the video game market.
So, what does this mean regarding the studio’s game, Orphan Age, which has yet to be released?
Studio Black Flag Hopes To Release Orhpan Age Still
Studio Black Flag aims to prevent their followers of Orphan Age from feeling let down. They’ve shared that they’re investigating possibilities to put out the game even though it remains in an unfinished, yet playable, stage.
They emphasized that the upcoming version wouldn’t be the final product, but it would be more advanced than the previously released playable demo.
It’s truly disheartening to witness a game company collapse, but it’s important to remember that struggles are common within the dynamic gaming sector.
