Studio Pierrot’s Biggest Anime Is Returning And It’s Not Boruto

This post contains spoilers for Boruto.

Boruto: Naruto Next Generation is an anime that has sparked a lot of debate among fans. While the animation was initially well-received thanks to Studio Pierrot, it quickly became apparent that the production lacked long-term planning.

Studio Pierrot started showing episodes that didn’t advance the main storyline – they were just extra content to keep fans entertained. Shortly after, they stopped adapting the series altogether. Now, the studio is bringing back a popular anime, but it won’t be Boruto.

The Black Clover Anime Is Coming Back In 2026

  • Black Clover is returning in 2026
  • The Black Clover anime is one of the biggest anime of 2026

Fans of the Black Clover anime were thrilled to learn earlier this year that a fifth season was in the works. While a specific release date wasn’t announced, they were happy knowing more episodes were coming. Now, after a long wait, it’s been confirmed that the anime will return in 2026. Details are still limited, but fans can finally rest easy knowing the show is definitely on its way.

The release date was announced at Jump Festa 2026, along with a new visual and a short teaser trailer. The trailer focused on Asta, Yuno, Yami Sukehiro, and Nacht Faust, hinting that these characters will be central to the upcoming story. Fans can expect to see a lot of action featuring this core group.

Black Clover Is One Of The Best Studio Pierrot Projects

The anime for Black Clover will be produced by Studio Pierrot. While they’ve had some ups and downs in the past, their recent work has been excellent, which suggests that Season 5 of Black Clover could be the best season yet.

Black Clover season five is expected to premiere after the new season of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War. This likely means it will arrive either in the summer or fall of 2026. While it’s possible the studio could release both seasons in the same month, it’s unlikely they would launch two major projects so close together.

Even if things get tough and you’re not sure you’ll succeed, you’ll be okay as long as you keep trying. Push yourself beyond what you think you’re capable of, and a way forward will appear.

Studio Pierrot hasn’t announced how long the new season will be, but given the five-year wait since the last one, it’s likely to be substantial. Fans have been eager to see Asta and the others return, and a short season of only 10 to 12 episodes wouldn’t be enough. Ideally, Studio Pierrot is planning for at least 24 to 26 episodes. If they’re concerned about taking too much time, they could split it into two parts and release both within the year.

Studio Pierrot Needs To Stick With The Current Pacing

As a huge Black Clover fan, I’m really hoping Studio Pierrot keeps up the momentum they’ve built! Remember how slow things were at the beginning, adapting just one chapter – or even parts of one – per episode? It felt like it dragged. Now, all the popular anime are covering several chapters per episode, and honestly, it feels so much better! I’d love to see Pierrot continue that trend with Black Clover. They shouldn’t rush things, of course, but adapting more chapters per episode would really keep the story flowing and prevent that sluggish feeling we had early on.

Boruto Anime’s Future Is In Jeopardy

The Boruto anime has always been a bit controversial, with even dedicated fans struggling to stay engaged after a long stretch of unrelated filler episodes. The core issue was simply a lack of source material: the manga releases only 12 chapters a year, while the anime attempted a weekly release schedule, resulting in over 40 episodes (and potentially 52 without breaks). This imbalance pretty much guaranteed the anime would struggle. If the anime comes back in the future, it would be much better suited to a seasonal release format instead of weekly episodes.
