Subnautica 2 and PUBG Publisher Krafton Acquires Another Development Studio

Krafton recently added Eleventh Hour Games, creators of the action RPG “Last Epoch,” to its list of studios. However, Krafton has been embroiled in a legal dispute with the leadership team of “Subnautica 2.” Despite this controversy, Krafton’s expansion doesn’t seem to have slowed down, as it now owns another studio.

In 2024, Eleventh Hour launched its initial title and has since garnered significant success. As Last Epoch prepares for its third season in August 2025, it’s ready to unveil even more exciting news. The game and the studio behind it have expanded enough to catch the eye of a publisher known for hits like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG: Battlegrounds) and Subnautica.

As the Game Director and founder of Eleventh Hour at Last Epoch, I’m thrilled to share that our studio and game have been acquired by Krafton! It’s incredible to look back on how this project started as a solo endeavor and has grown into a dynamic team of more than 100 talented individuals. With Krafton’s backing, we’re excited to tap into additional resources and opportunities that will help us take Last Epoch to new heights.

While there have been some turbulent times in the gaming world surrounding Krafton’s other properties lately, I’m optimistic about our future under their umbrella. For instance, the unfortunate events surrounding Subnautica 2, with its studio founders filing a lawsuit against Krafton following their sudden dismissal and game delay, are a stark reminder of the challenges in this industry. However, I believe that Last Epoch’s journey will be different, and we look forward to writing our own success story!

Krafton Has Acquired Last Epoch Developer Eleventh Hour Games

In the announcement, Cobler additionally mentioned that the acquisition will likely lead to an expansion of the team behind the game, Last Epoch. While specifics are yet to be disclosed, Eleventh Hour Games plans to start hiring numerous positions in the near future and months ahead, suggesting Krafton is optimistic about taking the game to greater heights. This development might bring a sense of relief to some fans, given that Krafton had earlier let go of several developers from The Callisto Protocol team. However, it’s also worth noting that Krafton played a part in rescuing Tango Gameworks studio after Microsoft intended to shut it down.

Although there have been recent issues with Subnautica and Callisto Protocol, Krafton has generally had a prosperous business history. Established in 2018, Krafton has flourished into a multibillion-dollar company and aims to expand its game library up until 2025 and beyond. Cobler’s statement indicates that the publisher shares Eleventh Hour’s enthusiasm for action RPGs and promises that the studio will maintain communication with the community. While the future remains uncertain, it could be significant news for Last Epoch.
