Sucker Punch has hinted that they might create a ‘Ghost of Yotei’ expansion for Ghost of Tsushima, but only if there’s enough demand from players.
Ghost of Yotei, a follow-up to the popular 2020 game Ghost of Tsushima, came out in October. Players control Atsu, a mercenary traveling through Edo-era Japan to avenge her family. As one of the highest-rated games of 2025—alongside titles like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Death Stranding 2: On The Beach—it’s been a major success on PlayStation 5. Now that development is complete, Game Informer spoke with the game’s creators about potential future content for Atsu.
Ghost of Yotei DLC Possible If Fans Want One, Says Sucker Punch
Ghost of Tsushima’s co-director Jason Connell and lead writer Ian Miles recently discussed the game’s success and narrative in an interview with Game Informer. Though the article contains spoilers, it also offered some encouraging news for fans hoping for additional content. When questioned about downloadable content (DLC), Connell stated,
Connell told Game Informer that they’ve reached a crucial point in the project where they can share it with the public and see what aspects players connect with and what they’re curious about, particularly regarding the character Atsu. He explained that gathering this feedback is now the most important step in making further decisions, similar to how they responded to player interest in the story and characters in *Tsushima*, like wanting to learn more about certain relationships or a character’s backstory.
In the quote, Connell is talking about the Iki Island expansion for Ghost of Tsushima, which came out with the Director’s Cut in 2021. This expansion focused on the story of Jin’s father, a character who wasn’t developed much in the original game. He then adds,
Connell explains that developing a character further is key, and they have a unique chance to hear directly from millions of players about what worked in the story and what didn’t. He believes this feedback is invaluable. They appreciate Atsu as a character, just like Jin, and will seriously consider making improvements or adding new details if it benefits the overall story and aligns with the studio’s vision for Sucker Punch.
While we don’t want to reveal anything about the Yotei storyline, the game definitely leaves room for future downloadable content. The developers have said Atsu’s story feels finished for now, but they haven’t ruled out the possibility of continuing it. Considering how popular the game has been, we might be able to revisit the world of Edo again soon.
