Suicide Squad: KtJLs Twist Puts a Possible Sequel Back on the Table

Highlights

  • Rocksteady’s decision to save Justice League characters in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a relief after the initial shock.
  • If any of them are deserving of their own game in the future, Flash seems first in line based on his prominence and heroics in the story campaign.
  • A sequel is neither confirmed nor rumored, but having the Justice League be alive suggests this won’t be the last players see of them in the Arkhamverse.

As a die-hard fan of the Arkham series who has spent countless hours saving Gotham with Batman and his crew, I can wholeheartedly say that Rocksteady’s decision to resurrect the Justice League in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is nothing short of a superhero comeback. It’s like when Lois Lane drops a hint about Superman’s identity, but instead of a cape and red briefs, we got a speedster with a lightning bolt on his chest.

Initially, the shocking plot twist of the game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League seemed plausible, only for Rocksteady to later announce a change in direction. Instead of the actual Justice League members being killed, it appears that Task Force X has taken out clones of them instead. Although it would have been intriguing to see Rocksteady follow through with their controversial move, it’s reassuring to know that the real Justice League – Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Batman, and Superman – may still be saved in future seasons of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, as they likely survive to face Brainiac after the initial launch.

The first inference to arise as a result of Rocksteady’s markedly significant plot twist here is, naturally, that the Justice League can and will be reprised in a future game. This would mean it is not a random Elseworld Justice League bred from a multiverse thread but a Justice League born and raised within Rocksteady’s legitimate Arkhamverse canon. Even if Rocksteady was to start slowly and gradually with one Justice League character other than Batman receiving their own standalone, single-player game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League seems poised for that potential character to be Barry Allen’s Flash.

Why Flash is the Most Deserving of His Own Game Out of Rocksteady’s Rescued Justice League

Kill the Justice League” after its launch.

While Flash being the first character saved by the Justice League doesn’t automatically mean he deserves a solo game, his distinct character traits such as his presence, tone, and uniqueness do make him suitable for one. Flash plays a significant role and leaves an impression throughout Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League‘s main story campaign, standing out among other Justice League members, especially when compared to the indelible image of Batman portrayed by Kevin Conroy.

Indeed, Flash proves how much of a hero he is within the campaign’s first couple of hours alone: he saves Task Force X from Green Lantern during a guided tour of Metropolis’ alien enslavement—immediately as they touch down in Metropolis’ open world after exploring the Hall of Justice, no less—and once again in an ominously lit Batman museum exhibit from the Dark Knight himself, who ironically nearly shoots Harley Quinn in the head. Flash has a ton of time on screen before he’s captured by Batman and has quite a bit of dialogue before and after his purple-veined clone appears.

Captain Boomerang’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Gameplay is Too Good to Shelve

In a potential progression for gameplay and storyline, a Flash video game featuring Captain Boomerang’s movement and a time-bending mechanic could be an intriguing development, given that Barry Allen has been confirmed alive in Season 2 Episode 3 of the live-service shooter’s additional content following its launch, as seen in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

In the game “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League,” gunplay is somewhat predictable, but the unique traversal for each character, particularly Boomerang with Dr. Sivana’s Speed Force gauntlet, stands out and excels. It’s intriguing to imagine those speed-related abilities being a part of a game centered around Flash as the main character. As for now, since Rocksteady hasn’t revealed much about their future plans, the fact that the Justice League is still alive makes the story engaging and hints at possible deeper involvement of characters like Flash in the Arkhamverse’s future.
