A large number of companies taking part in the Summer Game Fest 2025 have been unveiled, and one of the most exciting disclosures is that Nintendo will be making a comeback after a long absence from this event. This gaming titan from Japan has been absent from Summer Game Fest for several years, but it’s now gearing up to return, showcasing its upcoming console.
As implied by its title, Summer Game Fest (SGF) has been happening annually since 2020. Led by renowned journalist Geoff Keighley, the upcoming Summer Game Fest in 2025 is set to commence on June 6th.
Every year, it’s customary for organizers to unveil their partners approximately a week before the actual event takes place. This time around, the initial lineup of confirmed participants consists of 57 companies, such as Amazon Games, Devolver Digital, Square Enix, and IO Interactive. One of the biggest shocks is Nintendo, who are making a comeback to the event after quite some years. Interestingly, Nintendo decided to miss the SGF editions in 2023 and 2024, opting instead to save their last two summer announcements for individual Nintendo Directs held around mid-to-late June.

Another Nintendo Direct May Be Happening Around SGF 2025
At the event list, most entries are company names, but intriguingly, Nintendo is listed as “Nintendo Switch 2,” hinting at the likelihood of Nintendo attending SGF 2025 to unveil their next-generation console, scheduled for release a day prior on June 5. This appearance at the upcoming showcase does not necessarily exclude the possibility of another Nintendo Direct event in the coming month. In fact, given that Nintendo has hosted at least one such event annually in June since 2011, and often more than one, the probability of this trend continuing seems quite high. Furthermore, recent industry speculation points towards a potential second Nintendo Direct happening around the time of the Switch 2 launch, which is expected to be early June 2025.
The Witcher 4 May Be Featured at SGF 2025
It’s surprising to see CD Projekt Red among the participants for SGF 2025, as they just started actively working on The Witcher 4 towards the end of 2024 and their next game isn’t expected until at least two years later. However, it seems that CDPR will present something at SGF 2025 – possibly a new cinematic trailer for The Witcher 4, following its world premiere at TGA 2024, one of Geoff Keighley’s events.
The organizers of SGF announced that more than 60 businesses will take part in the 2025 event. However, it’s clear that there are at least four companies yet to be added to the recently unveiled list, which goes by the name “Round 1” partner lineup.
