Be warned, there might be spoilers ahead for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie! A recent online listing may have accidentally revealed one of the movie’s main villains. Following the huge success of Illumination’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Nintendo announced a new Mario film as part of the character’s 40th anniversary. The sequel will feature returning cast members like Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Jack Black, but will also introduce several new characters to the story.
The upcoming Super Mario movie clearly takes inspiration from Super Mario Galaxy, so it makes sense that Rosalina is a major new character. Brie Larson, an Academy Award winner, will voice her. Bowser Jr. will also appear for the first time in a Mario movie, playing a key villain, and will be voiced by Benny Safdie. Recent leaks suggest Bowser Jr. will surprisingly team up with another character in the film.

Okay, so I was checking out Everyman Cinemas’ website, and it looks like Wario might be the big bad guy in the next Super Mario movie! Apparently, he’s going to team up with Bowser Jr. to try and take down Mario and Luigi and, you know, take over the world. We’ve seen hints that he might be in the movie already, and this listing pretty much confirms it. They haven’t said who’s going to voice him yet, but it’s super exciting to think Wario is finally joining the Illumination Mario universe as a major villain!

Adding Wario to the next Super Mario movie from Illumination wouldn’t be surprising. While it’s still unconfirmed if Seth Rogen will return as Donkey Kong in the sequel, that could mean fewer characters from the first movie and room for new faces. Jack Black has even suggested Pedro Pascal would be a great actor to play the iconic Mario villain. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is set to hit theaters on April 1st.
In addition to the possibility of Wario being a major villain, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is set to feature many new supporting characters. The recent Yoshi trailer revealed that Birdo will appear as an enemy, along with classic Mario foes like Mouser and Lakitu. Luigi is also predicted to have a significant part, having been held captive by Bowser for much of the film. Shigeru Miyamoto, director of the Mario series, has enthusiastically stated that the movie will be the centerpiece of the franchise’s 40th-anniversary celebration.
Although The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is a major part of the franchise’s celebration, Nintendo has announced much more for fans. Alongside the movie reveal came news of updated versions of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 for the Switch, released shortly after a Nintendo Direct focused on the 40th anniversary. Recently, the Mario series gained its first new sports title on Switch with Mario Tennis Fever, and a Switch 2 version of Super Mario Bros. Wonder will arrive in March. A new Yoshi game is also planned for release this spring.
