Super Mario Galaxy Trailer Reveals Yoshi and Birdo

The newest trailer for the Super Mario Galaxy movie introduces a few characters that fans will be excited to see. It also suggests the movie draws more heavily from recent Mario games than previously thought.

Shigeru Miyamoto shared the newest trailer for the Super Mario Galaxy movie during a dedicated Nintendo Direct presentation. The trailer opens with Mario and Luigi journeying through the Sand Kingdom, a location from Super Mario Odyssey, where they’re greeted with enthusiasm by the Tostarenans.

The clues lead Mario and Luigi to a hidden cave, where they need a Fire Flower to see their way through. Inside, they discover Yoshi! Both the brothers and Yoshi are initially scared of each other, but they soon become friends, gaining a helpful new ally in the friendly green dinosaur.

Yoshi Is Not the Only Character Revealed in This New Trailer

Besides Yoshi, the trailer showed a quick fight between Princess Peach and Birdo, a nod to Birdo being a boss in the original Super Mario Bros. 2. Birdo was rapidly firing eggs at Peach. We also got a short glimpse of Luigi wearing a frog costume.

Okay, so Keegan-Michael Key is back as Toad, and honestly, he’s a little ticked off that Yoshi just shows up and tags along. Later, we’re all scrambling to get away from this super realistic dinosaur from Super Mario Odyssey – it was pretty intense!

Illumination’s Chris Meledandri closed the presentation with an update on the film, confirming that animation is complete and the movie is currently in post-production. It’s scheduled to hit theaters on April 1st.

We’re curious to hear your thoughts on Yoshi and Birdo joining the game! Were you expecting so many nods to Super Mario Odyssey? And are you wondering about Wario and Waluigi? Share your opinions on our Discord server! Plus, be sure to subscribe to our weekly newsletter for more updates.
