Supergiant Games Comments on Hades 3 Chances

A key person at Supergiant Games has indicated that a sequel to *Hades 3* isn’t guaranteed. This news comes as *Hades 2*, which recently launched in its complete version, is receiving excellent reviews and is proving to be commercially successful.

Supergiant Games revealed *Hades 2* at The Game Awards in December 2022, over two years after the original *Hades* fully launched. The sequel then became available to play as a full release on September 25, 2025.

Hades 3 Is Not ‘Preordained,’ Supergiant Director Says

Before the recent release, Amir Rao, Studio Director at Supergiant Games, spoke with popular roguelike creator Haelian about the possibility of a third *Hades* game. He explained that it wasn’t a certainty, and they weren’t secretly planning one at the moment. Rao also clarified that Supergiant Games focuses on completing one project before even thinking about the next, meaning they don’t discuss future games while still working on the current one.

Supergiant Games develops its projects through a continuous process of building, testing, and refining – a method they call ‘the game is the design document.’ They prefer this open approach to setting rigid, long-term plans. While some initial ideas may change before a game enters early access – as they originally envisioned a different main character for *Hades* – Supergiant generally focuses on shaping the game based on feedback from players as they play it, rather than planning extensively in advance. Both *Hades* and their other games are prime examples of this approach.

Based on what Rao said, it doesn’t seem like Supergiant Games is currently working on *Hades 3*. Now that *Hades 2* is fully released, the studio will probably start planning its next project, if they haven’t already. While *Hades 2* will still receive updates, those will likely focus on improvements and bug fixes, similar to what happened with the first game. It’s unlikely we’ll see any major downloadable content, as Supergiant hasn’t released DLC for their games before – they’ve only released standalone soundtracks.

It’s not preordained. It’s not something we secretly know right now or anything like that.

While Hades 3 Remains Uncertain, Hades 2 Is Outperforming Hades 1

Shortly after its official release, *Hades 2* has already attracted over 80,000 players on Steam, nearing its peak of 103,567. Given that it launched on a Friday, player numbers are expected to rise over the weekend. Data suggests that *Hades 2* sold around 2 million copies during its early access phase, and the original *Hades* sold over 150,000 copies in the week before the sequel’s launch. The first *Hades* game has now sold more than 9 million copies on Steam. Currently, *Hades 2* is selling at twice the rate of the original game when it first launched on Steam.
