Superman Trailer SHOCK: Is Canceled?!

Summary

  • Superman’s second trailer hints at a flood in Gotham, possibly linking to The Batman film.
  • Fans eagerly anticipate the film’s release on July 11 to see familiar DC characters.
  • The trailer teaser’s massive success suggests Superman will be a hit in the DC Universe.

Nestled among many hidden references in the second teaser for Superman, there’s an image that’s both thrilling and ominous. This scene, which some attentive spectators have started to piece together, depicts a flood.

5 months following the initial teaser’s premiere, filmmaker James Gunn responded to fan demands by unveiling the subsequent official trailer for his much-awaited masterpiece, “Superman”. Previously, at Cinemacon in late April, attendees were given an exclusive five-minute glimpse of the Fortress of Solitude emerging from ice, and the Kryptonian robots hastening Superman’s recovery. On July 11, audiences will have the chance to see on the cinema screen David Corenswet portraying the new Man of Steel, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and a host of other superheroes including Isabela Merced’s Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardener/Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific/Micheal Holt, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

There Seems To Be A Subtle Reference To Matt Reeves The Batman In Superman’s Official Trailer

Does a flooded Gotham Ring a Bell?

In the brief three-minute teaser for Superman, many Easter eggs and DC Universe nods are hidden, but one might be overlooked by many viewers, despite its potential significance. At exactly 1 minute and 43 seconds into the clip, on the right side of the screen, a billboard on a skyscraper displays a news headline reading “Major Floods Cause Suffering.” Although there seems to be a flood scene in the trailer at 2 minutes and 16 seconds, some fans speculate that the flood mentioned on the billboard could be linked to the one happening in Gotham, as depicted in Matt Reeves’ 2022 film, The Batman.

In the movie “The Batman,” a massive flood devastates thousands of less fortunate residents when the Riddler explodes the Gotham City reservoir in an attempt to cleanse the deeply corrupt town. This film stands apart from the universe that houses Superman, the DC Universe.

If the flood mentioned by the newscaster is indeed a nod to Gotham from The Batman movie, it wouldn’t be surprising given Gunn’s history of incorporating numerous references in his films. For instance, over 40% of the references in Guardians of the Galaxy are still being discovered—more than a decade after its release! The potential casting of Robert Pattinson as Batman in the DC Universe has sparked much debate among fans. Some argue that he would be a good fit due to his popular portrayal and the lack of need for two Batmen, while others view this idea with skepticism for the same reasons. Furthermore, the possibility of Pattinson playing Batman could suggest that despite public statements about faith in Reeves’ vision for The Batman: Part 2, executives at the DC Studios, which include Gunn and Peter Safran as co-CEOs, are preparing contingencies in case the sequel is cancelled.

There’s a possibility that Superman could reveal information about Batman’s destiny within the DC Universe. The hints it’s already dropped suggest it has significant implications for the character and the overall new universe, considering the teaser’s popularity: it’s DC and Warner Bros.’ most-watched teaser ever, boasting 250 million views across all platforms. In contrast, the recent trailer garnered only eleven million views on its first day. This isn’t necessarily a cause for concern as it’s unusual for trailers to surpass teasers in viewership.
