I was so excited to see the ESRB added a rating for the original Red Dead Redemption! It seems like a new version might be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S soon. Even though it’s not as visually impressive as Red Dead Redemption 2, the first game still has an amazing story and a really immersive open world – it’s incredible how well it still plays after all these years, even 15 years after it first came out!
Originally launched in May 2010 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Red Dead Redemption follows John Marston, an ex-outlaw who is compelled to track down his former companions as a way to atone for his previous crimes. While a version was released for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in 2023, and Xbox One and Series X/S players can access the original Xbox 360 game, the first Red Dead Redemption isn’t currently available as a dedicated game on modern consoles.
Red Dead Redemption Could Be Coming to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S
Things might be changing for fans of Red Dead Redemption. The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has listed a new version of the game that isn’t the recent Switch, PS4, or PC versions, or the original from 2010. This new listing specifically mentions PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series as supported platforms, hinting that a modern version of the first Red Dead Redemption game could be released soon.
The description for this new version of the game, coming to Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, is the same as the one used for the PC, Switch, and PlayStation 4 versions. This suggests the new versions will have the same content as those older releases. The description specifically mentions fighting “zombies,” leading many to believe the Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare DLC will be included, just like it was with the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch versions.
Following the postponement of Grand Theft Auto 6, Rockstar seems determined to stay on good terms with its fans. They’re bringing Grand Theft Auto 5 back to PlayStation Plus Extra this month, and releasing an updated version of Red Dead Redemption for current-generation consoles could please many players. While a remake of the original Red Dead Redemption for PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S would be great, fans have long been hoping for a current-gen update to Red Dead Redemption 2.
