I’m really excited about Voyagers of Nera! It’s a survival crafting game, but instead of being stuck on land, you’re exploring a huge ocean world. You can play by yourself or team up with friends to sail around, find cool places and resources, fight monsters, and build up your own settlements. What’s even more promising is that it’s the first game from Treehouse Games, but the people working on it have tons of experience in the industry, so I’m hoping for something special!
Game Rant spoke with Michael Chu, co-founder and CEO of Treehouse Games, to learn more about their new game, *Voyagers of Nera*. With so many games in this genre being released right now, Chu knows *Voyagers of Nera* needs to be unique to get noticed.
Voyagers of Nera Comes During a Busy Time For Survival Crafting
While games involving survival and crafting have existed since the 1990s, the specific term ‘survival crafting’ is relatively new, gaining traction only in the last ten years. Games like *Rust* and *Ark: Survival Evolved* were key in popularizing the phrase throughout the 2010s, but the genre really took off in the 2020s. The COVID-19 pandemic led many people to seek connection through gaming, and survival crafting games saw a large increase in players. This popularity has continued even after the pandemic, and that’s something Chu was eager to capitalize on, as he explained…
What’s great about survival crafting games is how much freedom they offer. You can enjoy playing by yourself, or easily team up with friends who can join and leave whenever they like. Everyone can contribute in their own way – one person might focus on building, while another hunts. Plus, you can continue playing even after a friend logs off, building them something cool to discover when they return. It’s a fun way to help each other out and be generous.
Voyagers of Nera Was Built For Survival Crafting Fans
A lot of survival crafting fans enjoy spending a long time collecting resources and items. However, this can be discouraging for new players, and Treehouse Games had to carefully consider this when designing their game. When asked if *Voyagers of Nera* is aimed at experienced players or those new to the genre, Chu explained,
Survival crafting games are really popular right now. People are discovering how adaptable they are – any group of friends can pick one up and enjoy it together. However, players are starting to expect more from these games. Some people enjoy the repetitive tasks involved in building and gathering, while others find them frustrating. Ultimately, the best approach is to create an experience that appeals to the core group of players who are most passionate about the survival crafting genre.
Given the current popularity of this game type, *Voyagers of Nera* is likely to attract many players. This early access period is a fantastic chance for Treehouse Games to make a positive first impression. The studio plans to actively listen to player feedback and use it to continually improve the game as they work towards its official release.
