During Gamescom 2025, NCSoft unveiled an exhilarating gameplay trailer for “Time Takers,” a third-person team-shooter that offers a fresh take on the genre, with the core gameplay mechanics revolving around time itself. Known primarily for developing and publishing massively multiplayer online role-playing games such as “Guild Wars” and “Aion,” NCSoft demonstrated its versatility in genre exploration through “Time Takers.
Before Gamescom 2025, it was expected that NCSoft would primarily showcase their new game, Cinder City, a third-person tactical shooter MMO previously known as Project LLL. However, during the Opening Night Live event, NCSoft had two unexpected announcements – both being shooters with distinct styles. While Cinder City brings together giant mechs and futuristic combat in the MMO realm, Time Takers appears to be NCSoft’s contribution for fans of hero shooter and battle royale games.
NCSoft Reveals Time Takers Gameplay Trailer
Introduced by Mistil Games, the game titled “Time Takers” is a free-to-play team-based survival shooter that was unveiled at Gamescom ONL 2025 through a gameplay trailer. Players can request access to an upcoming playtest of the game on Steam. In the game, “Time Takers“, the focus lies in making wise use of the scarce time available. Each player in a match has a finite time that is continually decreasing, indicating their demise once it hits zero. Players can regain this countdown timer by gathering Time Energy through pick-ups in the game world, slaying monsters, or defeating opponents.
In this game, time functions as a crucial element in two ways: it serves as a survival mechanism and a resource for acquiring upgrades. You can buy ‘apps’ (in-game enhancements) using the time you accumulate. This discourages players from hoarding time since they can use it to improve their gameplay. Additionally, time can be spent on resuscitating teammates or replenishing their time gauge if the player has enough to spare. The game promotes player versus player (PvP) conflicts similar to battle royales, but instead of shrinking zones or artificial barriers, survival forces players to play aggressively to avoid death due to natural causes.

In my gaming experience, at the outset of each round in this hero shooter game, I get to select from a roster of distinct characters, known as “travelers.” Each one possesses special skills that are unique to them only, reminiscent of games like Overwatch. What’s intriguing is that all weapons are accessible by every traveler, prompting me to experiment with different builds in search of the ideal blend.
In addition to its unique features, Time Takers incorporates elements from Role-Playing Games (RPGs), specifically skill advancements to enhance engagement. Players gain experience points for skills through standard gameplay activities such as vanquishing monsters and overcoming other travelers. However, similar to other aspects of the game, players can opt for a more time-consuming approach if they wish to expedite these upgrades by consistently investing their time.
