As a seasoned adventurer who’s navigated through countless ruins and faced off against countless bosses, I must say that the Suthorn Ruins in Echoes of Wisdom have proven to be quite the challenge! The moving platforms, the clever use of Bind and Reverse Bond, and the intricate puzzles – it’s a testament to the game’s design.
In my own adventure within “Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom,” I found myself embarking on an intriguing journey as part of the main quest known as “The Mysterious Rifts.” To reach the significant location of the Suthorn Ruins, the first major dungeon in the game, I had to navigate through the enigmatic Suthorn Forest that lay dormant. If you’re stuck on the puzzles within this ancient ruin, fear not! We’ve prepared a helpful guide specifically tailored for your needs.
In addition, we’ll guide you on locating every chest within the Suthorn Ruins, finding the Boss Key, and offer strategies to help you defeat the boss with relative ease.
Suthorn Ruins Dungeon Walkthrough (1F) – Echoes of Wisdom
Stepping foot into this dungeon, I find myself at a conveniently placed checkpoint. As I venture forth, my eyes fall upon the very first chamber. It’s here that old Tri, the wise sage, shows me the way to bind spells to specific objects and creatures within this room, making my journey ahead smoother.
To make Tri disappear, press the ‘X’ button and shoot it at the boulder, causing it to fall into the chasm below. Activate the button to unlock the door, then walk inside the room.
Suthorn Ruins Chest 1
Moving forward, you’ll encounter a boulder on a ladder. Before descending, carefully maneuver the boulder into the top-left empty spot using ‘Bind’, creating a path leading to a western room.
Utilize Tri’s draw ability to extract the treasure chest, which is filled with five pieces of Radiant Butter, from the ground.
Returning to the chamber adorned with a rickety ladder, I find myself stepping into a two-dimensional realm teeming with spiders. The silken threads they’ve spun provide a makeshift climbing route, helping me navigate this labyrinthine den.
Suthorn Ruins Chest 2
As a devoted fan, I’d like to share that high up in the area lies a treasure chest. Defeating one of the spiders grants you the Strandtula Echo, allowing you to conjure one and grant Zelda an added dimension. Inside this chest, you’ll discover the Dungeon Map for Suthorn Ruins, providing valuable insights into the surrounding Still World.
Keep heading to the right and climb the ladder to enter the 1F again.
Smash the pots (where we discovered delightful grapes) and utilize the Strandtula Echo to ascend the elevated platforms. You might also find alternatives like beds nearby. Now, make your way out through the western exit from this chamber.
Afterward, go left and ascend to locate an elegant stone lift. This lift will carry you to the upper level, specifically the second floor of Suthorn Ruins.
Suthorn Ruins Walkthrough (2F) – Echoes of Wisdom
Step out of the elevator and ascend the lengthy stairway to encounter a formidable enemy known as a Darknut, wielding an ominous axe. I opted for Sea Urchins in my attack, but feel free to choose whatever strategy you prefer. Upon his defeat, you’ll gain access to the valuable knowledge of the Darknut Echo. Subsequently, there’s no further path on your right, so proceed by climbing the staircase, passing through the door to your left instead.
Now, make your way down the staircase that takes you to a 2D section reminiscent of Mario in Echoes of Wisdom. Upon arrival, you’ll spot two fires: one burning brightly on the left and another unlit on the ground. We had been standing above the unlit fire and chose to drop the Brazier Echo, which ignited it into a flame.
1) Shift the stone located on the right towards the opening below and then ascend the ladder. In our blunder, we unintentionally conjured up a Darknut, treating him as if he were a bag of grain. Needless to say, this was not the correct approach for solving this puzzle, but it somehow managed to work!
Currently, ignite the extinguished flame from the nearby brazier to spark your torch. Once lit, the heavy gate will glide open, allowing you to ascend the tall ladder that leads into another deep chamber of this labyrinth.
Moving forward, I come across a room featuring a fast-travel Waypoint and four mysterious suits of armor adorning the walls. Approaching the knight with the glistening golden shield, I press the X button to tug it down using my character’s Bind power. The shield falls, and in response, the previously locked door swings open.
Suthorn Ruins Chest 3
In this particular room, you’ll find some bats (Keese) to conquer. If you decide to go left, you’ll encounter a towering wall that appears impassable, but rest assured, it can be surmounted. We managed to clear it using a combination of three platforms strategically placed.
On the opposite side, there’s a chest containing fifty-rupee purple coins. Let’s return to the central area of this room first, then we’ll proceed north up the lengthy stairway. This route will lead us into a confrontation with someone somewhat familiar – a boss fight.
How to Beat Shadow Link in Echoes of Wisdom
Absolutely! What lies ahead is a confrontation with a corrupt form of Link. Rest assured, it’s not a challenging battle per se, but to help you prepare, I’ve gathered some strategies inspired by our approach to defeating Link.
- We used the pots lying around and just tossed them at Link when he was looking away from us. Of course, you can summon pots and do the same thing.
- Once he bends over for a second, try to inflict as much damage as possible. It’s not easy with no sword, but throw pots or something as fast as you can.
- Once he starts charging towards you with his shield up, try and distract him with a small monster and then hit him from behind with a pot.
- The Caromadillo Echo came in handy, too, for hitting Link from far away.
After the battle concludes, Zelda will find a sword in front of her. This empowers her to enter a sword-fighting mode, enabling her to temporarily wield Link’s abilities by pressing up on the directional pad. Use the Y button to cut through the purple goo at the room’s rear. Then, proceed down the ladder to another 2D area.
Suthorn Ruins Chest 4
Make your way to the lowest part of the room, there you’ll spot a massive stone. Interact with it (let’s call it binding) and locate the ladder on the left side. Hoist that rock using the ladder. Move the stone close to the wall next to the room’s chest.
Suthorn Ruins Walkthrough (1F – Again) – Echoes of Wisdom Guide
Moving forward, shatter some pots in the adjoining room to possibly discover some Flower Nectar. Then, proceed into the next chamber. To your right, you’ll encounter a locked door that requires a Small Key. Additionally, keep an eye out for a fresh Waypoint close to the boss room located to the north.
For the time being, let’s move towards the room at the bottom-left corner. Defeat the plant monster there, and you’ll acquire the Deku Baba Echo, a useful item for battling more Deku Baba monsters.
As a dedicated gamer, I found myself in a peculiar situation: to unlock the doors in the room, I had to eliminate all the greenery. I maneuvered my sword up on the directional pad to break through the goo barrier, then proceeded to subdue that pesky plant. To reach and conquer the one nestled in the upper-right corner, I strategically positioned a bed as a launchpad.
Suthorn Ruins Chest 5
Currently, proceed through the door on your left to discover a room containing a chest and a statue. Press the ‘X’ key to connect yourself to the statue. Then, ascend the inclined platform, followed by moving to your right to position the statue over the switch located in the corner.
Open the chest to find a whopping 50 Rupees.
Suthorn Ruins Chest 6
As a fan, I’d guide you this way: Step out, climb upstairs, then enter the northern chamber. Inside, you’ll find two flickering torches and a Deku plant. Grab it using ‘Bind’ and tug at it until it wilts (my apologies). This action will unveil a concealed chest holding the Small Key we require to open that door in the main room with the Waypoint.
There are four statues in the next room. Use Bind on the one on the upper right and then position it on the switch to open the gate.
Before heading down the ladder, check out the pot on the left side of the room (we found a Fairy).
In this new 2D segment, we find ourselves dealing with mobile platforms that Zelda can attach to. Furthermore, by holding down the R button, you can activate a ‘Reverse Bond’ feature, enabling Zelda to trace the path of an object. To give it a whirl, point upward towards the platform and press X for Bind. After that, hold R and follow the mobile platform to traverse the chasm and reach the other platform.
Suthorn Ruins Chest 7
Have a look on the opposite side of the room where you can spot a chest containing twenty Rupees. Utilize your teleportation or reversal abilities to move towards that location.
To depart from this location, ascend the nearby staircase on your left, and you’ll enter a spacious chamber containing a substantial treasure chest, an ornate statue, and a control panel with a switch.
Suthorn Ruins Chest 8
To move the statue towards the switch, climb onto a makeshift bed first, then boost yourself up using Bind on the statue. After that, drag it to the correct location. The chest of considerable size holds the Boss Key for Suthorn Ruins, which will unlock the posh door in the main hall.
Step up to the door with the special key, and there I stand, squaring off against the formidable Seismic Talus – the initial big challenge in the thrilling adventure known as Echoes of Wisdom.
How to Beat Seismic Talus Boss in Echoes of Wisdom
As a seasoned gamer tackling the challenging world of 2D Zelda, I can share some insights about handling the formidable Seismic Talus. Though it might not be the toughest foe you’ve faced, this guy is no pushover. Here are a few strategies that have helped me in the past:
- In the first phase, the glowing orb underneath him is the spot you want to attack. We threw pots at it and also sent our Caromadillo echo to deal damage.
- Once you do enough damage, the orb will fly out of the rock monster. This is the time to go into swordfighter form and press the attack button as fast as possible.
- Next, the glowing weak spot will appear on his shoulder. We used the spiked Sea Urchin echo to bombard the spot, but you can throw pots, too.
- And for the last spot, it’s right on his head, which is the hardest to reach.
- We found the best way to do damage is to wait until he slams his hands down. You have seconds to jump on the hands and hit him with whatever you have.
- Keep hitting the purple orb and the boss will be dead and gone, leaving Link with a full Heart Container. This will increase his max hearts by one.
Tri will also give Zelda five Unusual Crystals, which you will learn soon enough about their use.
