Switch 2 Is Getting One of the Biggest Co-Op Horror Games of the Last 5 Years Soon

Kinetic Games is bringing its popular co-op horror game, Phasmophobia, to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. The game is currently planned to launch in 2026 and is expected to be a great addition to the Switch 2’s collection of multiplayer horror titles.

Phasmophobia is a cooperative horror game where up to four players work together to investigate haunted locations, collect evidence, and identify different types of ghosts – all while trying to stay sane. First released on PC in September 2020, it became available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in October 2024. Even though it’s still in early access, Phasmophobia has become incredibly popular on both consoles and PC. In July 2025, the developers at Kinetic Games announced that the game had sold over 25 million copies, making it a major horror hit of the 2020s, especially within the co-op genre.

Phasmophobia Nintendo Switch 2 Version Announced at The Game Awards 2025

Kinetic announced at The Game Awards 2025 that their popular horror game, Phasmophobia, is coming to the new Switch 2 console. They’re aiming to release it in 2026. Like other versions of the game, it will only be available to purchase digitally. It’s expected to cost $19.99 on the eShop, matching the price on other platforms.

First Phasmophobia Nintendo Switch 2 Gameplay Screenshots

Although we didn’t see any gameplay at The Game Awards 2025, Kinetic Games has now shared the first screenshots of Phasmophobia on the Switch 2. These images suggest the game won’t need significant graphical changes to run well on Nintendo’s console. While official performance details are still unknown, Phasmophobia‘s current performance on other consoles is promising. The game already runs at a smooth 60 frames per second and 1080p on the Xbox Series S, and even though the Switch 2 is slightly less powerful, it’s been able to perform similarly thanks to efficient technologies like AI upscaling. This means the Series S version could give us a good idea of what to expect from Phasmophobia on the Switch 2.

Phasmophobia May Leave Early Access by the Time it Reaches Switch 2

Kinetic Games has reaffirmed that they are still working on the full 1.0 version of Phasmophobia. They previously stated in August 2025 that they hoped to release it sometime in 2026. It’s currently unknown whether the 1.0 launch or the game’s release on the Switch 2 will happen first, though both dates are still approximate. Kinetic CEO Daniel Knight mentioned the team is eager for Switch 2 players to enjoy all the content added throughout 2025, implying the Switch 2 version will be fully featured like other platforms. As 2026 is fast approaching, a release of Phasmophobia in the latter half of the year seems more probable.
