Switch This Controller Setting in Star Wars Outlaws for a Better Experience

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can confidently say that the controls in Star Wars Outlaws took me by surprise when I first started playing. It was like they swapped the left and right hands of their digital puppet master, leaving me feeling disoriented and fumbling around like a blindfolded Jedi trying to wield a lightsaber. But alas, the force was strong within me, and I persevered.

In addition to various challenges related to optimization, an unusual aspect caught my attention when I began playing Star Wars Outlaws. Initially, the controls seemed oddly awkward for no apparent reason. Upon reflection, I realized the developers had switched the standard control scheme. Instead of using buttons, you use analog sticks to interact with characters and objects, which feels clunky and counterintuitive. Fortunately, the game allows you to customize your controls, and indeed, it does improve the gaming experience!

How to Change Controls in Star Wars Outlaws

Initially, you can easily change controls within your game by accessing the pause menu, clicking on ‘Settings’, followed by ‘Controls’. After that, select ‘Show Controller Layout’ and press the ‘RB’ button on your controller to go from Default to ‘Alternate’. This minor adjustment will exchange the Melee action from X to the Right Stick, and the Interact action from Right Stick to X.

Generally speaking, in most games, interactive actions are usually linked to face buttons, making it instinctive to perform tasks like accepting quests, gathering items, or manipulating the game’s surroundings. However, Star Wars Outlaws deviated from this norm by requiring players to click on the right analog stick instead. This unconventional approach doesn’t feel comfortable or intuitive.

Should You Use a Controller or Mouse and Keyboard for Star Wars Outlaws?

If you’re using a PC to play games, you have flexibility. You can opt for a controller or mouse and keyboard, both of which perform effectively. Nevertheless, based on my own gaming experience, it seems to me that Outlaws was originally developed as a console game. Consequently, a controller provides a more natural and intuitive feel.

Give the game a spin using a controller to get a sense of its feel. Although you might have better precision with a mouse and keyboard for aiming, navigating through movement, flight, and driving experiences is more intuitive with a controller.

A significant portion of the game involves mastering different control mechanisms, like the lockpicking sub-game. Utilize whatever strategy suits you!
