Take-Two Addresses Call of Duty on Game Pass & Pipeline Plans

As a seasoned gaming enthusiast with decades of immersion under my belt, I find myself consistently impressed by the strategic acumen displayed by Take-Two Interactive’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick. His recent comments to GamesIndustry.biz further solidify his reputation as a shrewd industry leader.

In a recent conversation with GamesIndustry.biz, Take-Two’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, shared his thoughts about the potential influence of Call of Duty joining Game Pass and their ongoing projects.

In simpler terms, Zelnick suggested that making a popular game such as Call of Duty available on the same day as the subscription service launch might tempt customers to subscribe for some duration.

Concerning the topic of subscriptions and Microsoft’s plan to incorporate Call of Duty into Game Pass, Zelnick expressed that it won’t impact their decision-making process. He further explained that this is due to the fact that their decisions are based on rational considerations.

Additionally, during the discussion, Zelnick addressed the recent cost-cutting measures at Take-Two. It was speculated in May 2024 that Take-Two might consider closing down or selling their independent label, Private Division.

In a recent chat, Zelnick explains that they are now prioritizing only those projects from their pipeline that they believe have the best chance of success. He mentioned Take-Two’s strategy as being the most imaginative, groundbreaking, and cost-effective.

They note that Take-Two reduced their yearly expenditure by approximately $165 million, and their current CEO, Zelnick, states that they are now well-sized for the present market.

Yesterday, I myself squashed the buzz around the possible collaboration between FIFA and 2K Sports. In addition, in their latest financial report this week, Take-Two Interactive made it clear that the launch window for GTA 6 remains as is.
