Take-Two Sells Indie Publisher Private Division to Unknown Buyer

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I must admit this news about Private Division‘s sale has left me somewhat disheartened. I’ve been eagerly awaiting several titles from their catalog, such as No Rest for the Wicked, Tales of the Shire, Kerbal Space Program 2, OlliOlliWorld, Hades, and The Outer Worlds. It’s a bit like finding out your favorite local bookstore has closed down just as you were about to pick up that highly-anticipated novel.

After closing Roll7 and Intercept Games, and selling off indie game publisher Private Division (without disclosing the buyer), Take-Two Interactive has also divested its entire collection of live and upcoming titles under the Private Division label. Despite this sale, they’ve pledged to continue supporting No Rest for the Wicked, a recent action RPG developed by Moon Studios that was published by Private Division.

The publisher’s sale comes as part of the Take-Two earnings results, in which they said:

We appreciate the valuable work the Private Division team has done for our company, and we believe they’ll thrive and keep achieving great things in their new environment.

It’s said that prior to the current buyer being identified, a private equity firm had expressed an interest in Private Division.

As a publisher, Private Division was associated with several successful game launches and titles yet to be unveiled that piqued our interest. These include:

  • No Rest for the Wicked
  • Tales of the Shire
  • The Outer Worlds
  • Kerbal Space Program 2
  • OlliOlliWorld
  • Hades

It’s interesting to note that according to TopMob, the number of Grand Theft Auto 5 games sold has now exceeded an astounding 205 million units!
