Each area in Ghost of Yotei features a Mythic Tale, which usually gives players a special armor set or other valuable items. Players can learn about the Tale of Takezo and will need to finish two quests to complete it. These quests are generally simple, though one involves a lengthy climbing challenge. The guide below provides a step-by-step walkthrough for both quests, detailing the rewards players can earn in Ghost of Yotei.
Takezo the Unrivalled Mythic Tale Guide in Ghost of Yotei
How to Start Takezo the Unrivalled Mythic Tale in Ghost of Yotei
To begin this Tale, you’ll need to find one of the five Dueling Trees located throughout the world. Each of these Dueling Trees is guarded by a disciple of Takezo eager to prove their strength against Takezo. Don’t worry about which tree to visit first – the quest requires you to defeat them all. These trees are large and distinctive, making them easy to spot from a distance. The table below details the location of each Dueling Tree and the rewards for defeating the Ronins guarding them:

Defeating every Ronin rewards you with a Minor Charm, all of which are different:
- Takezo’s Charm of the Unrelenting Warrior: Deal bonus damage while at low Health.
- Takezo’s Charm of Bold Deflection: Parrying inflicts a minor amount of additional Stagger damage.
- Takezo’s Charm of Renewed Determination: Earns a minor amount of Spirit when taking damage from an enemy.
- Takezo’s Charm of Bracing Victory: Killing Staggered enemies earns a minor amount of Health.
- Takezo’s Charm of the Stout Heart: Increases potency of the Heal Technique by a minor amount.
Finding Takezo in Ghost of Yotei
Once you’ve defeated all the Ronins at the Dueling Trees, your next goal is on the Southern Coast of the Yotei Grasslands. Travel there by horse, and you’ll find a campsite. Takezo will meet you here, and when he arrives, follow him down to the beach. You’ll engage in a Spar with him, and if you win, you’ll learn the Dual Katanas Spirit Attack, completing the quest.
The Five Teachings Mythic Tale Guide in Ghost of Yotei
This earlier quest isn’t the last you’ll see of Takezo. Your next task is to climb Mount Yotei and meet him there. If you’ve already reached the summit while searching for the Charm, you can simply fast-travel to the top. Otherwise, head to the Mount Yotei Shrine, located to the northwest of the Yotei River. From there, you can begin the challenging climb to the mountain’s peak.
When you get to the top, go to the campsite and make sure you have all of the Takezo Charms you’ve collected. Approach the campfire, and Takezo will show up. After a brief chat, you’ll have the option to follow him and start a battle. This fight can be really challenging, particularly on higher difficulty settings. He’ll use a variety of attacks that you’ll need to dodge or parry, so quick reflexes are essential.
If you’re finding a particular opponent challenging and can’t win right away, you can make the game easier. Don’t worry, there isn’t a trophy tied to playing on a specific difficulty setting.
After you win against Takezo, you’ll receive the Straw Hat of the Unrivalled and the Gilded Night & Gilded Dawn (Weapon Kit). You’ll also unlock the Unrivaled trophy.
