How To Get A Fishing Rod In Tales of The Shire

In order to acquire a Fishing Rod in the game Tales of the Shire, players will need to advance their journey within the main storyline, eventually receiving a mission to locate the Book of Rules which helps decide if Bywater is indeed a village.

After the dispute concludes, you’re instructed to locate Old Noakes, an absent-minded hobbit fisherman who may have information about where the Book of Regulations can be found.

Old Noakes has a rather grouchy demeanor, much like an ungracious hobbit, and his memory, while it may exist, isn’t particularly keen or reliable, much like a forgetful fish.

You’ll encounter Old Noakes for the very first time only when Orlo Proudfoot guides you back to your residence. However, it’s essential that you don’t seek him out immediately; instead, wait until you’re instructed to find him at his fishing dock to acquire the Fishing Rod.

In a conversation with Old Noakes, you might say, “Hi there! I was wondering if you’ve come across an old book? It actually has images of fish inside.” Then, when he asks about how you know where Mister Fishie swims, you could respond by saying something like, “Well, I noticed some mysterious swirling shapes in the water that seemed to suggest Mister Fishie’s presence.

Old Noakes will lend you his antique fishing rod and ask you to catch three fish from it. You won’t need to keep the fish after catching; just the act of catching them is what matters. Then, Old Noakes will guide you back to the pond beside your house, where you can set out on your own.

After you’ve landed three fish and head back to Old Noakes at his dock on the north-central part of the map, he’ll allow you to retain the antique fishing rod forever!

Join The Fishing Club To Get Better Rods

As you progress through the primary storyline, you’ll eventually encounter the Fishing Club. This exclusive club rewards diligent hobbit anglers for catching a large number of fish. Upgrading your fishing rod within this club is essential, as it enhances the quality of the fish you catch and allows you to reel in higher-level specimens.

In Tales of the Shire’s Fishing Club, you’ll enjoy exclusive access to unique quests on our noticeboards. Completing these tasks not only enhances your fishing skills by providing additional experience but also allows you to acquire superior fishing rods and boost your overall fishing proficiency.

How To Fish In Tales of the Shire

In the game “Tales of the Shire“, players need to prepare for fishing by choosing the Fishing Rod from their Tool Wheel (located up on the D-pad), and then press A/X to throw their line into the water. Keep pressing A/X until the target marker is above one of the moving patterns in the water, at which point you should release the button to drop your line precisely on top of it.

If you’re close enough, a nearby fish will display a question mark above its head and start swimming towards your bait. To confirm the catch, press A or X on your controller. Once you’ve confirmed, it’s time to reel in the fish! Remember, to reel, simply hold down RT or R2 while keeping the cursor within the blue bar behind the fish.

Regardless of which way the fish moves, you should adjust your left analog stick accordingly to maintain the circle at the center of the bar. In other words, steer opposite to the fish’s direction for a balanced control.

While the circle is centered on the bar, gently pull on the line. Be aware that if you reel for an extended period, the circle will transition from yellow to red, signifying increased tension. If you continue to hold the line after the cursor begins to turn red, it may snap due to excessive tension. So, remember to release some tension when the cursor starts changing to red.

Keep on moving the joystick against the fish’s movement, then wind up the line once the cursor is centrally positioned and either blue or yellow on the meter. This technique will help you catch fish effortlessly in the game Tales of the Shire!

Initially, you can mainly catch common fish, but as you improve your skills and acquire superior Fishing Rods, you’ll find yourself reeling in rarer (and more delectable) species to prepare for your meals.

All Fishing Spots In Tales of the Shire

In Tales of the Shire, not every body of water allows fishing. Instead, you can only fish in specific locations marked by swirling shapes in the water across the game’s map. Once you spot these spots, they will be indicated on your map with a small white fish symbol as a marker for easy identification.

In the game Tales of the Shire, players initially have access to only four fishing spots. These initial fishing locations catering to beginners are as follows:

1. Fishing Spot 1
2. Fishing Spot 2
3. Fishing Spot 3
4. Fishing Spot 4

  • Cotton Farm Pond: on the far south edge of the map, near the Cotton Farm itself
  • Old Ruby’s Pond: located just north of your home, and the first fishing spot Old Noakes shows you during the fishing tutorial
  • Old Stone Bridge Pool: below the bridge to the east of the Bywater Village Square (between the Square and Old Noakes’ dock)
  • Tree Root Pool: deep in the forest on the southeast edge of the Bywater map

Once you increase your friendship with specific characters within the game Tales of the Shire, you’ll also gain entry to their private fishing areas. Characters who offer this perk include Old Noakes, the postman Orlo Proudfoot, and the dwarf Nefi.
