One fun way to describe it is: “Taskmaster,” a popular TV series, features Greg Davies as the witty host, who oversees comedians and other personalities as they attempt peculiar tasks, with Little Alex Horne providing guidance. Over its 20 seasons, viewers have witnessed one hundred contestants, not counting special episodes or international adaptations.
Instead of labeling them as the highest scoring contestants on “Taskmaster”, it would be more fitting to refer to them as the “most humorous contestants” or the “funniest participants”. These titles are earned through their unique perspectives, creative problem-solving skills, and a knack for creating hilarity and mayhem.
6. Tim Key
The Original Taskmaster Rebel
- Image from Channel 4, Taskmaster S1 E5
- Series: 1
- Highlight: His attempt to cheat at emptying a bath.
In my humble opinion as a movie critic, Taskmaster introduced me to contestants who truly think outside the norm. Yet, it was Tim Key in series 1 who arguably set this trend alight. He was rebellious and mischievous, constantly challenging Alex’s expectations with his innovative approaches to tasks. And let’s not forget about his infamous attempts at bending the rules, or should I say, attempting to cheat.
Notable moments involve his creative method for placing a tea bag in a cup, fibbing about a charity just to get a high-five, and a comedic homemade gaffe featuring a mannequin in signature red pants trapped in the yard. But arguably, these are outshone by the mischievous grin on Tim Key’s face as he tried to cheat at the task requiring the bath to be drained without removing the plug.
5. Nish Kumar
Sometimes, Being Bad Is Funny… And Nish Loved Every Moment Of It

- Series: 5
- Highlight: Being pulled aside by Greg for a pep talk.
In the game show Taskmaster, it isn’t essential that contestants excel at tasks to be amusing, and this is particularly evident with Nish Kumar, who boasts the record for the least points earned since the series transitioned to 10 episodes per season. Some of Nish’s standout moments (or not-so-standout, depending on your perspective) include his basketball attempts, mishaps in the sand, and most notably, an instance where Greg took him aside for a motivational talk reminiscent of a teacher helping a student in need.
Regardless of numerous comical mishaps, Nish truly shone during his collaboration with Mark Watson in their performance of A Song for a Stranger. His exceptional vocal and guitar abilities left everyone in awe. Through all the ups and downs, Nish added an immense amount of joy to season 5 by embracing every moment with passion.
4. Noel Fielding
Barely Anything Beats His Banana Disguise

- Image from Channel 4, Taskmaster S4 E1
- Series: 4
- Highlight: Disguising himself as a tiny banana
It’s challenging to precisely define what makes Noel Fielding so amusing, particularly on Taskmaster, but some of his comedic gems have secured him a spot among the top contestants. In his signature yellow skeleton attire, Noel was always noticeable, until he was required to hide himself, transforming into a minuscule banana in a fruit bowl – one of the most memorable scenes in the show’s history.
Notable moments by Noel Fielding on Taskmaster feature transforming Little Alex Horne into a peculiar sandwich he eventually ate, showcasing unexpectedly proficient soccer abilities, and performing an adorable dinosaur dance synchronized with Alex to the tune of a vintage ringtone.
3. Katherine Ryan
An Unmatched Commitment To Entertainment

- Image from Channel 4, Taskmaster S2 E1
- Series: 2
- Highlight: Causing drama in her own family.
As the victor of Series 2 of Taskmaster, I’ve not only proven myself to be one of the most entertaining contestants but also one of the most successful. One of my most memorable moments was catching Greg off guard by buying him a piece of land, making him technically a Lord – Lord Greg Davies, to be precise. Throughout the series and in subsequent appearances, like in the Champions of Champions episodes, I’d keep up this joke by addressing the Taskmaster as his Lordship whenever appropriate.
Talking about Katherine Ryan’s performance at Champions of Champions, there hasn’t been a contestant quite as dedicated to providing entertainment as she was when asked to make the biggest mess. She went so far as to trick-call her own sister by falsely accusing her partner of infidelity. Watching her interactions with her father were particularly amusing. Fortunately, her family caught on to her prank, and everything ended up okay in the end.
2. Bob Mortimer
One Of The Most Unpredictable Contestants

- Image from Channel 4, Taskmaster S5 E1
- Series: 5
- Highlight: A creepy edible mask with a Geordie accent.
On the TV show “Taskmaster,” it was clear from the start that Bob Mortimer would bring an element of unpredictability. And boy, did he deliver on that! While he excelled at tasks requiring skill and went on to win the entire series, his most memorable moments came during those creative challenges.
For instance, the stop-motion film he created, featuring him playfully inserting and removing a banana from his eyes, was truly remarkable. Additionally, he constructed a bar graph using beach items that displayed a unique statistic, something only Bob Mortimer could conceive. However, his greatest accomplishment took place during his Champions of Champions performance, when he animated a spooky yet edible mask into an alien with a Geordie accent who had transgressed.
1. Rhod Gilbert
A Madman Dedicated To Embarrassing Greg & Alex

- Image from Channel 4, Taskmaster S7 E1
- Series: 7
- Highlights: A video from Greg’s wardrobe & tying Alex up.
Rhod Gilbert is undeniably one of the top-tier contestants on “Taskmaster,” often stirring up the most mischief during one of the show’s finest seasons. His camaraderie with Greg frequently resulted in hilarious prize task submissions, typically featuring an awkward photo of Greg donning his Speedos. What made Rhod stand out even more was a peculiar recording he made, sneaking into Greg’s wardrobe to catch the Taskmaster napping.
Beyond ordinary challenges, Rhod gained a notorious reputation as an unpredictable genius, always leaving Alex and viewers guessing what he would do next. Whenever Rhod covered his face with his hands to focus, everyone knew something extraordinary was brewing. Some of the memorable instances involving him were tying Alex up in such a way that even Rhod couldn’t untie him, launching a task-laden spear into the caravan, and an awkwardly amusing quick-change act where the Taskmaster’s assistant felt mortified again.
