Team BDS Pulls Out of Rocket League Championship Series

As a die-hard Rocket League fan with four years of cheering for Team BDS under my belt, this news has left me reeling like a rocket after hitting a wall boost. The team that brought us two World Championship titles and countless regional victories is stepping away from the RLCS, at least for now.

Team BDS has declared they’re leaving the Rocket League Championship Series, which is the premier tournament in the game’s esports world. However, they emphasized that this doesn’t mean they’re abandoning competitive Rocket League altogether; instead, they’re making a shift to address the financial challenges of playing Rocket League.

From Champs to This

Organization BDS was significantly influential within the RLCS scene. In 2022 and 2024 (recently), the team clinched the RLCS World Championship, and in 2023 they finished as runners-up. Furthermore, Team BDS has consistently excelled in regional competitions and major tournaments, accumulating an impressive $2.6 million in prize money, making them one of the most successful organizations in Rocket League.

On social media, the team announced a surprising development – they’re pulling out of the tournament they had recently emerged victorious in.

Today, I’m reflecting on our current stance and financial commitment to the competitive Rocket League community. After a deep dive into the data and some thoughtful deliberation, we’ve chosen to reallocate our resources and focus for this game. Our decision is influenced by the economic viability of Rocket League and the level of investment the publisher pours into its esports ecosystem.

In this situation, all members of the organization have been let go. But don’t worry about Team BDS, they still have opportunities ahead.

We remain committed to Rocket League, which is part of the DNA of Team BDS, by staying in the competitive scene on one hand, and by launching our own tournament during this offseason on the other.

Team BDS will host a tournament called ‘Take the Throne’ in Geneva, Switzerland on November 23.

From Team BDS, it’s not a farewell but a significant transition we’re embarking on. The past four years in the RLCS have been remarkable for us, but recent developments confirm the whispers that have been swirling around for a fortnight or so.
