Team Cherry is Thinking of Making a New Game Instead of Hollow Knight 3

Team Cherry’s Ari Gibson recently spoke with Jason Schreier about the studio’s achievements and future plans. While they’ve had great success with Hollow Knight, a third installment isn’t necessarily in the works.

In a Bloomberg interview, Schreier asked Team Cherry’s Gibson about future projects after the release of Silksong, including potential DLC for Hollow Knight. Gibson responded that they have plans for other games, but their biggest challenge is the increasing time it takes to develop them.

He explained that the only real worry is eventually dying. Considering each project takes around seven years, and could even stretch to nine, he’d like to create several more games while he still can.

Schreier quickly followed up, wondering if Team Cherry plans to make more games set in the same world, or if they’ll explore a completely new one.

Gibson explained that while they’re open to creating new games in different settings, any future projects will still focus on large, immersive worlds with unique characters and challenging bosses – elements players enjoy from Hollow Knight. They haven’t ruled out returning to the world of Hollow Knight someday, and they have some ideas for how that could happen, but they also want to avoid being known as only the developers of that one game.

Gibson explained he’s open to making another Silksong, but he’s also curious about trying a new project with a different style and story, and seeing how that impacts the creative process. He’s interested in exploring similar themes in a fresh way.

Currently, Team Cherry doesn’t appear to have a new project firmly planned, and it will likely be another four to five years before we learn what they’re developing.
