Teamfight Tactics Devs on the Magical Design Inspirations for Set 12

As a long-time gamer and avid fan of Teamfight Tactics, I am beyond excited for the latest set, Magic n’ Mayhem, also known as Set 12. The creativity and freedom Riot Games shows in each new set never cease to impress me. Five years into this game, and it continues to surprise us with unique themes and IP from League of Legends.

As a dedicated gamer of Teamfight Tactics, I can’t help but be impressed by the game’s endless creativity when it comes to set designs. After an incredible five-year run, Riot Games’ auto-battler continues to push boundaries with unique themes based on League of Legends’ rich IP, particularly its extensive skin collection. In the latest set, Magic n’ Mayhem (Set 12), Riot developers drew inspiration from various forms of magic and even crafted some new ones exclusively for this captivating release.

In simple terms, Magic n’ Mayhem is a game that lives up to its name by offering a blend of enchanting and chaotic experiences as it takes players on a journey to the Magitorium, an intriguing castle filled with marvels, where top magic users come together to showcase their skills. For Teamfight Tactics enthusiasts, this collection brings familiar types of sorcery, such as Witchcraft and Arcana, along with more distinctive ones, like Sugarcraft and Honeymancy. Riot Games developers have shared information on how they developed Magic n’ Mayhem and adapted existing League of Legends intellectual property to fit the theme.

Bringing Teamfight Tactics’ Magic n’ Mayhem to Life

Teamfight Tactics Devs on the Magical Design Inspirations for Set 12

In Teamfight Tactics, each set takes inspiration from different sources, such as Monsters Attack (Set 8) drawing from superheroes and Inkborn Fables (Set 11) from Eastern fantasy. For Magic n’ Mayhem (Set 12), Riot Games intended to create a lively and vibrant theme since it was releasing during summer. Gameplay designer Mindy Chi mentioned that they planned to incorporate magical elements like witches and fairy magic, as well as drawing inspiration from Dungeons and Dragons to develop unique traits based on League of Legends skin lines. Teamfight Tactics set lead Sam Judd added that they wanted to add surprising types of magic for tacticians to explore in the amalgamation.

To generate fresh and surprising magical practices for our tacticians in the convergence, we aimed to think beyond the usual and discovered new, unconventional brands of magic. Additionally, we wanted to introduce fan-preferred skin lines that hadn’t been featured in TFT before, resulting in the creation of entirely new types of magic specifically tailored for our TFT community.

As a passionate gamer, I’m thrilled to share that in Magic n’ Mayhem, I’ll be able to bring my beloved League of Legends skins to life! The Bees and Cafe Cuties lines are making a comeback, each with their unique magic. For instance, Honeymancy, inspired by the Bees line, empowers me with the ability to summon a buzzing horde of bees that clings to me during gameplay. On the other hand, Sugarcraft, based on Cafe Cuties, lets me create delectable cake layers for impressive rewards!

The enchantment persists with the latest Charms feature, introducing unique, one-time spell casts available for purchase in most shops. Ranging from enhancing abilities to conjuring mighty companions, their capabilities evolve as tactics specialists progress through the adventure.

How Teamfight Tactics Set 12 Showcases Other League of Legends IP

Previously, Teamfight Tactics introduced new characters aligning with the set themes such as dragons in Dragonlands (Set 7) and Silco from Arcane in Runeterra Reforged (Set 9). Set 11, Inkborn Fables, was particularly noteworthy due to its addition of champions like Alune, Aphelios’ sister and a League of Legends NPC, and the exclusive Yordle character, Kobuko. This expansion was highly acclaimed for enriching the League of Legends lore and offering a unique twist to it.

At Magic n’ Mayhem, the newcomer Norra, a Yordle champion hailing from Legends of Runeterra, joins Teamfight Tactics as a 5-cost Portal mage. Additionally, the Chrono trait Stargazer skin line from League of Legends: Wild Rift is making its appearance in the game. As per game director Peter Whalen’s statement, these collaborations help foster stronger connections among Riot Games’ teams and create engaging new experiences within Teamfight Tactics.

As an enthusiastic supporter of Teamfight Tactics, I’m thrilled to share that starting July 31, I’ll get to uncover more delightful references from past sets and League of Legends intellectual property while playing Magic n’ Mayhem matches. The imaginative use of magic and spells in this mode is a treat, and it’s exciting to explore new combinations of traits and Charms to reach the pinnacle of success.
