Teamfight Tactics Set 12: Who is Norra?

Highlights

  • Teamfight Tactics Magic n’ Mayhem introduces Norra, a new Yordle champion from Legends of Runeterra, adding to the game’s magical theme.
  • The Portal trait in Teamfight Tactics is inspired by Norra’s ability to conjure portals, summoning objects that disrupt enemies or help allies.
  • Teamfight Tactics’ crossovers with other League of Legends IPs, like Norra and the Stargazer skin line, strengthen player familiarity with the lore and open the door to further collaboration opportunities.

As a dedicated fan of both League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics, I’ve been absolutely thrilled with the recent addition of Norra from Legends of Runeterra in the latest set, Magic n’ Mayhem. The way Riot Games continues to weave these IPs together is nothing short of magical!

In simpler terms, Teamfight Tactics frequently borrows elements from League of Legends when introducing new traits and mechanics. This not only reinforces fans’ connection to League of Legends lore but also introduces alternate lore through its skin lines. For instance, in the latest set, Magic n’ Mayhem, Teamfight Tactics introduced Norra, a new Yordle champion, who hails from Legends of Runeterra.

Norra is an exclusive champion to Legends of Runeterra, which is League of Legends‘ TCG equivalent. She is a Yordle enchantress who uses portals to travel to different realms depicted in the Book of Thresholds with her familiar Yuumi. However, Norra went missing after going on a journey so perilous that she had to destroy the portal she used, leaving Yuumi to seek her out using the Book of Thresholds. Now, the magical Yordle will continue living on in Teamfight Tactics Magic n’ Mayhem.

Norra: From Legends of Runeterra to Teamfight Tactics

Teamfight Tactics Set 12: Who is Norra?

Teamfight Tactics is recognized for incorporating League of Legends champions and themes. Typically, it draws inspiration from skin lines, leading to numerous traits and champion designs. However, in more recent updates like Runeterra Reforged (Set 9) and Magic n’ Mayhem (Set 12), Teamfight Tactics has introduced new champions that don’t exist on Summoner’s Rift, such as Silco from Arcane and Norra from Legends of Runeterra.

Teamfight Tactics: Magic n’ Mayhem lives up to its name by introducing various magical elements through traits. Notably, the Portal trait is modeled after Norra’s power to create portals for traveling between dimensions. As a champion costing 5, Norra teams up with Yuumi, launching bouncing and explosive projectiles towards enemies upon impact. Properly equipped with damage and mana items, Norra and Yuumi transform into formidable backline units during the mid to late game.

  • Norra and Yuumi’s ability: Summon and launch a ball at the current target that explodes, dealing damage, and coloring the area (making it do damage each second). If the ball lands in an already paperfied area, it will bounce to a new location before popping.

With the Portal ability engaged, a side portal emerges on the gameboard, drawing in items from various realms. These items bring about consequences that can hinder enemies’ moves or bolster allies during combat. Moreover, their strength amplifies as each trait milestone is reached.

How Champions Like Norra Open Up More Crossover Opportunities for Teamfight Tactics

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve noticed that in Teamfight Tactics, the crossovers between champions and IPs from League of Legends are not just a showcase of Riot Games’ creativity in reinterpreting champions. Instead, they serve as a way for the developers to build stronger connections with the teams behind other League IPs. For instance, Set 12 introduces a collaboration with League of Legends: Wild Rift, resulting in the Stargazer skin line falling under the Chrono trait.

Teamfight Tactics collaborations have been successful due to its role in introducing League of Legends’ lore to players, both the established and alternate versions, through an extensive roster of champions and traits for each set. Introducing Norra offers additional understanding into her bond with Yuumi and magical abilities, while highlighting her significance despite being less prominent in League of Legends’ narrative.

Champions like Norra, Silco, and Alune from the past and present in Teamfight Tactics have paved the way for more collaborations in upcoming sets. Teamfight Tactics has demonstrated its ability to introduce unique characters, such as Kobuko in Inkborn Fables (Set 11), who enhance the theme and specific traits. The future looks promising as these champions can continue to flourish, even if they are not part of League of Legends’ core roster.
