Terraria’s ‘Bigger & Boulder’ Update Is Live With Huge QoL Changes

The highly anticipated Terraria update, ‘Bigger & Boulder’ (version 1.4.5), is now available on PC, consoles, and most mobile devices. This is one of the game’s biggest updates in a long time, released to celebrate Terraria’s 15th anniversary. It includes many improvements to make the game easier to enjoy, new ways to create worlds, hundreds of new items to find, and special content featuring characters from the games Dead Cells and Palworld.

Re-Logic announced the new update is now available on all platforms – PC, consoles, and mobile – everywhere in the world. However, the mobile version in China is delayed because of technical issues with server transfers, a review of the translated text, and the timing of the Chinese New Year. Re-Logic is collaborating with its partners to release the update in China as quickly as they can.

A Major Overhaul to Crafting and Inventory Management

Update 1.4.5 includes a revamped crafting menu designed to help players manage Terraria’s huge number of items—over 6,000! The new system groups recipes into categories you can search, like weapons and furniture. It replaces the old grid layout, but you can still switch back to the classic style if you like.

Okay, so crafting is way easier now! They’ve linked it up with chests, which means I can automatically use stuff that’s in my chests without having to drag everything into my inventory first. Re-Logic said they did this to make things smoother, so I can spend more time exploring, fighting, and actually building cool stuff instead of managing items.

Spectator Mode and Housing Improvements

As a player, I’m really excited about the new update! Instead of just staring at a timer when I die, I can now jump around and watch what other players are doing – it’s way more engaging. Plus, the housing system is much more forgiving now. You don’t have to find everyone a room right away, which takes a lot of pressure off in the beginning. They’ll still hide at night if they don’t have a home, but at least they’ll be available again once you get them settled!

Hey, so the Housing Query tool got a nice makeover! Now it’s way easier to see exactly what I still need to get for my dream house – it clearly shows me what’s checked off the list and what’s still missing. It’s a huge improvement!

World Seeds Take Center Stage

Bigger & Boulder is putting a lot of emphasis on World Seeds. A new menu helps players easily find and choose special seeds, and even combine them to create unique gameplay experiences.

The update includes an official Skyblock seed, dropping players onto a tiny floating island with few resources and a completely new way to survive. Re-Logic has also added a bunch of unique and themed seeds. These let you play with things like permanent holiday settings, constant rain, different landscapes, team-based spawn points for competitive play, and other experimental features that can really shake up how the game plays—often in surprising ways.

Some seed combinations unlock hidden effects, encouraging experimentation and discovery.

Crossovers With Dead Cells and Palworld

This update finally delivers the highly anticipated crossover content. The collaboration with Dead Cells adds weapons, cosmetic items, furniture, and special abilities to Terraria, all designed to fit Terraria’s unique pixel-art look and feel, and inspired by the action roguelike game.

The new Palworld collaboration lets you summon Pals who are helpful partners, not just decorations. Pals like Digtoise can help you mine resources, and others can assist with collecting items and exploring the world, giving you new ways to play.

Hundreds of New Items, Atmosphere Upgrades, and Music

Update 1.4.5 brings over 650 new items to the game! You’ll find things like new whips for summoning, mounts to transform into, furniture sets, decorative blocks, critters, and even different kinds of boulders. Some of the new hazards are also more unpredictable – boulders might fall upwards, activate during storms, or act strangely in special worlds.

This update makes Terraria’s world feel more alive with improvements like new backgrounds for different areas, better lighting, visible fish when you’re fishing, beautiful auroras and thunderstorms, and refreshed designs for banners and trophies.

The game’s music has been significantly expanded with eight new boss battle themes, meaning every boss now has unique music. These new tracks will be included in a future update to the official soundtrack.
