David Corenswet is about to soar and make his first appearance as Superman in the DC Universe. Yet, the actor confessed that there’s another superhero from DC Comics he has long desired to embody.
James Gunn and Peter Safran implemented significant transformations upon assuming their roles as co-heads at DC Studios. Their plan was to rejuvenate the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Originally, it was planned that Henry Cavill would reprise his role as Superman in another film. However, Gunn opted for a more youthful actor, thereby making Corenswet the star of the upcoming Superman movie. Lately, Corenswet has expressed his admiration for another DC superhero and elaborated on the storyline he wishes to bring to life-action.
Tyler Hoechlin (Superman), along with his co-stars Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult, recently graced the stage of Caesars Palace’s Colosseum to promote their movie. During the event, they were asked which DC characters they would like to embody. Without a moment’s pause, Hoechlin declared his desire to play “Batman“. Additionally, Hoechlin mentioned an animated series where Batman and Superman crossed paths. He voiced his enthusiasm about potentially bringing this intriguing tale to life in a live-action format, as reported by GamesRadar.
You know, it’s fascinating when Batman and Superman trade roles in the cartoon. It’d be quite exciting if we could ever experience something like that, James.
I’m reminiscing about “Superman: The Animated Series,” which graced our screens on The WB from 1996 to 2000. One of its most memorable moments was the crossover titled “World’s Finest” in 1997, showcasing DC’s top two favorite superheroes – Batman and Superman. In this storyline, billionaire Bruce Wayne visits LexCorp in Metropolis, leading to an unforeseen confrontation with Superman. This encounter revealed their secret identities, prompting them to join forces against the common enemy, Lex Luthor.
In the episode “Knight Time,” Bruce Wayne mysteriously disappears, leaving Gotham City in turmoil without its guardian, Batman. While Batman is away, Superman steps in as a temporary replacement, masquerading as the Dark Knight to keep criminals at bay. However, Superman’s strength raised suspicions among some. Robin soon realized that Superman was not Bruce. Nevertheless, Superman’s disguise was convincing enough to deceive the villains.
Together, Robin and Superman searched for Bruce, uncovering that Brainiac had abducted him because he needed Wayne Enterprise’s advanced technology. Brainiac hijacked Bruce’s mind, causing him to act like a lifeless servant. Superman came to his rescue, freeing Bruce from Brainiac’s control. Afterward, they teamed up once more to vanquish Brainiac.
It’s accurate that Corenswet believes live-action adaptation will be thrilling, given the two iconic superheroes, known as the world’s best, are involved. The blend of detective work, action, and teamwork in this crossover event makes it intriguing. Superman steps in to find out what happened to Batman, handling Gotham’s criminals during his absence. He also teams up with Robin and partners with the Dark Knight against Brainiac. This portrays the importance of teamwork and highlights the contrast between Superman’s and Batman’s approaches.
Without a doubt, Batman is stealthy and strategic. In case Superman was absent, it’s evident that Batman would employ forensic techniques and surveillance to locate the Man of Steel. He’d likely hack security cameras to determine where Superman was last seen, given his penchant for such actions. While Superman may not possess the same abilities as Batman, this episode illustrates how straightforward and powerful he can be. These two superheroes are distinct but they work effectively together when needed, showcasing their unique strengths.
Superman hits theaters on July 11, 2025.
