The 16 Best Romance Anime On Netflix

Although Netflix isn’t solely focused on anime, it offers a wide variety of shows and movies. Compared to other streaming services, Netflix has one of the best anime collections available, with something for every fan and several exclusive titles you won’t find anywhere else. Plus, they consistently add new shows each season, so the library is always growing.

Because the service categorizes “anime” broadly, finding exactly the kind of show you want can be tricky. To make things easier, here’s a list of the best romance anime available on Netflix, including both well-loved favorites and newer series.

1. The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity

Netflix’s Best Romance Anime

Even though Netflix delayed the release of The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity in North America, the anime quickly became popular during the Summer 2025 season thanks to its excellent quality. It’s easily the best romance anime currently on Netflix, and definitely worth watching if you enjoy the genre. In fact, even if you don’t usually watch high school romance stories, this series might surprise you.

Fragrant Flower is a charming and realistic anime about Kaoruko and Rintaro, two high school students who develop a connection despite attending rival schools. While there’s a bit of drama later on, the show is mostly a lighthearted and sweet story about their adorable and sometimes awkward relationship. Unlike some romance anime that focus heavily on conflict, Fragrant Flower is simply a pleasant and easy watch.

2. Love Through a Prism

A London Romance

The winter anime season of 2026 started strong with popular shows like Frieren, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Hell’s Paradise. One anime that flew under the radar was Love Through a Prism, a series released all at once on Netflix. While it’s perfect for binge-watching, it might have gained more traction with a weekly release, allowing fans to discuss each episode. However, if you have Netflix and enjoy romance anime, Love Through a Prism is definitely worth checking out.

This story takes place mainly in London during the early 1900s and centers around Lili, a Japanese student who has just started at art school. To continue studying there, she needs to become the top student within six months, which means surpassing a carefree boy named Kit. The two quickly connect and become the show’s central couple. While the romance has some unexpected moments, it’s mostly a sweet and charming relationship. Kit is pleasant, but often feels like he exists primarily as Lili’s competition and eventual love interest.

Lili is a truly excellent main character – easily one of the best we’ve seen in 2026. She’s full of energy, driven, and passionate, though a little bit wild and stubborn. Seeing London from her perspective is always enjoyable, thanks to her infectious enthusiasm and the show’s beautiful animation – Love Through a Prism is visually stunning. The supporting characters are also well-developed and likable.

3. Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You

A Classic Romance Anime

I always thought Kimi ni Todoke had a lot of potential. The first season back in 2009 was amazing, but the sequel really let me down. It felt like the story just stalled, and they were afraid to move the central romance forward for way too long. Without a proper conclusion, it just didn’t feel like the story ever truly fulfilled its promise.

Good news for fans! In 2024, Kimi ni Todoke came back with a third season, available only on Netflix. These five episodes are a fantastic example of romance anime, offering realistic and thoughtful stories. The series focuses on characters who are well-developed and growing, exploring the joys, challenges, and uncertainties of love while also showing them mature and learn about themselves.

If you’re new to the series, it’s best to start with the first episode, as Kimi ni Todoke is consistently enjoyable.

4. Ranma ½

An Iconic Comedy With Effective Romance

Rumiko Takahashi’s Ranma ½ is a truly groundbreaking manga, and it played a key role in shaping the harem genre while also playfully challenging its conventions. While the original series debuted in 1989, a new version is now available on Netflix in 2024. Ranma ½ is at its heart a laugh-out-loud comedy, filled with exaggerated and funny characters. But it also works as a lighthearted romance, focusing on two characters who are too proud to admit they like each other, all while navigating complicated and sometimes pushy romantic interests.

The original anime is still enjoyable, but the 2024 reboot looks like it will be the best version of the story. The animation is excellent, and it updates some parts while staying true to what makes Ranma ½ special. Because the manga is finished, the new anime can adapt the entire story without adding unnecessary filler.

If you haven’t heard of Ranma ½, it’s about Ranma Saotome, a boy who magically turns into a girl whenever he gets wet. He’s supposed to marry Akane, but neither of them wants to!

5. Your Lie In April

An Unforgettable Melody

By now, Your Lie in April is considered a classic, and most romance fans have probably already seen this beautifully made series from A-1 Pictures. If you haven’t, it’s definitely worth watching! It’s a moving story full of drama, gorgeous music, and explores themes of hope and depression, with moments of both heartwarming and sometimes controversial comedy.

After losing his mother, Kosei stopped being able to play the piano. But his life starts to change when he meets a talented young violinist named Kaori. They form a deep and meaningful connection that goes beyond simple attraction. The show also features other well-developed and compelling characters.

6. No Doubt In Us

A Brilliant Manhua Romance

Adapted from a Chinese manhua, No Doubt In Us isn’t your typical anime, which might cause it to fly under the radar. But if you’re searching for a truly grand love story, this show is a must-watch – it’s easily one of the best romance anime available on Netflix. Don’t let the 48 episodes intimidate you; each one is only about half an hour long, making it a surprisingly quick and enjoyable series to finish.

Set within the Chinese imperial court, this story follows the Empress and Emperor as they unexpectedly switch bodies. This forces them to see life through each other’s eyes and rekindle a romance that had faded. It’s a refreshing take on a relationship where two people fall in love all over again, a theme rarely explored in television.

7. Blue Box

A Sports Romance Anime That Is More Romance Than Sports

Coming in Fall 2024, Blue Box is a unique anime that blends romance and sports, making it potentially appealing to fans of both. However, it’s important to know that romance is the main focus, and the sports element often takes a backseat – sometimes feeling unnecessary. The story centers around Taiki, who has a crush on Chinatsu, the star player on his school’s basketball team.

Taiki is motivated to improve his badminton skills and compete at the national level, hoping to impress Chinatsu and finally ask her out. However, his childhood friend Hina clearly likes him, adding an extra layer of difficulty to the situation.

Although the story in Blue Box isn’t groundbreaking, the characters are exceptionally well-done. The three main characters are instantly likable and share a believable, engaging connection, with dialogue that feels natural for a romance.

8. Ouran High School Host Club

A Reverse Harem Romance Masterpiece

Many consider Ouran High School Host Club to be the perfect introduction to reverse harem anime. It’s a classic for a reason – it’s not only a fantastic comedy, but also a genuinely sweet romance, even with its harem setup.

Haruhi, a girl who prefers to dress as a boy, accidentally joins her school’s Host Club to settle a debt. The club members didn’t know she was a girl when they made the arrangement. As a result, many of the boys, including the club president, start to fall for her.

The success of Ouran High School Host Club comes from its well-developed characters. They each have their own personalities and aren’t simply defined by their connection to Haruhi, which makes any romantic feelings between them feel genuine and believable.

9. My Happy Marriage

Not Everything Works, But The Main Romance Is Great

The Netflix anime series My Happy Marriage, a popular romance title, has had an unusual run. While both seasons started strong and received positive reviews, interest waned as they went on. The show isn’t perfect – it sometimes relies on simple, uncomplex villains. The magical aspects also feel underdeveloped at times, and the action isn’t particularly well-done.

Despite its imperfections, My Happy Marriage truly shines when it comes to the relationship between Kiyoka and Miyo. They start off unsure, but quickly build a healthy connection based on mutual support, kindness, and honesty. Both characters have difficult pasts that affect how they see love, and they find comfort and affection in each other.

10. Romantic Killer

A Great Comedy About Romance, And A Great Romance With Comedy

Netflix’s Romantic Killer is a hilarious anime that playfully pokes fun at romance stories, especially those with multiple guys competing for one girl. Anzu isn’t interested in romance and just wants to enjoy her hobbies, but a quirky wizard suddenly throws her into a romantic comedy where she finds herself with three admirers.

At first, this anime feels like a lighthearted comedy that doesn’t take romance seriously. However, it shifts gears as the story unfolds. By the second half of the season, Romantic Killer surprisingly becomes a really good romance, and Anzu has fantastic chemistry with each of the three potential love interests.
