  • “The Monkey” movie is an adaptation of Stephen King’s short story and features a toy monkey that may be more evil than anticipated.
  • “Drop” is a horror film where an intruder terrorizes the protagonist through phone drops, promising harm to children if she doesn’t comply.

As a long-time connoisseur of horror films, I must say that the lineup for 2025 promises to be a spine-tingling extravaganza! With the return of some familiar faces like M3GAN and The Black Phone, as well as fresh additions such as Final Destination: Bloodlines and The Grabber’s comeback, I can hardly wait.

2024 boasted a stellar lineup of terrifying movies, ranging from the nerve-wracking Netflix thriller “Don’t Move” to the gruesome and brutal “Terrifier 3” and the pulse-pounding “body horror” of “The Substance.” Every year, enthusiasts of slasher films, body horror, and supernatural tales eagerly await news about which upcoming releases they should mark on their calendars. While some horror aficionados make it a point to watch every movie from each subgenre, others tend to stick to the type of scary movies that give them the most chills.

2025 looks set to offer a terrifyingly exciting year for horror enthusiasts, as Blumhouse unveils multiple productions and renowned directors prepare to premiere their latest chilling creations.

The Monkey (February 21, 2025)

In February 2025, a film titled “The Monkey” will be released, written and directed by Osgood Perkins. This movie is an adaptation of Stephen King’s 1980 short story. The plot revolves around twin brothers Bill and Hal (played by Theo James), who discover a toy monkey that once belonged to their father. However, this seemingly innocent toy might be far more sinister than they could have ever imagined. Many of King’s stories warrant adaptations, and this film seems particularly intriguing due to its premise – evil dolls and other childlike objects often serve as excellent fodder for terrifying tales. Additionally, the cast boasts some highly skilled actors, including Rohan Campbell, Elijah Wood, and Tatiana Maslany.

During a chat on the Bloody Disgusting podcast Boo Crew, Perkins revealed some insights about The Monkey, giving us an idea of what horror enthusiasts might anticipate.

The atmosphere of this film will resemble “Misery,” “Creepshow,” or “Gremlins” or “American Werewolf” much more closely than it does “Longlegs.” For me, if you’re going to create a movie about a toy monkey, it should have a serious undertone. However, Stephen King’s work often has a humorous and nostalgic feel, so we aimed to make a film that had a touch of the late ’80s – ’90s era about it.

Drop (April 11, 2025)

As a cinema enthusiast, I can’t help but feel captivated by Christopher Landon’s upcoming horror flick, Drop. The story revolves around me, as the character Violet (Meghann Fahy), experiencing one of the most chilling nights imaginable on a simple date. Things take a sinister turn when an unknown intruder starts sending drops to my phone, threatening to harm my babysitter and children unless I comply with their demands. In such a dire situation, quick thinking and swift action become my only means of survival.

Landon has crafted and helmed numerous amusingly gruesome slasher films, such as “Freaky” and “Happy Death Day” along with its follow-up “Happy Death Day 2U”. It’s consistently thrilling to anticipate his next project. Amongst them all, the premise of “Drop” stands out uniquely, offering something fresh that hasn’t been explored before.

Final Destination: Bloodlines (May 16th, 2025)

As a devoted fan, I can’t contain my excitement as we approach spring 2025 when “Final Destination: Bloodlines” will hit the screens! This cherished horror franchise is about to unveil its next chapter, leaving us eager to discover where it leads.

Details about “Final Destination 6” remain unclear at this point, but various reports suggest that the plot will center around a young woman named Stefani whose grandmother miraculously survived a tower accident. It’s anticipated that the film will introduce an original character and narrative, which has fans eagerly awaiting its release.

M3GAN 2.0 (June 27, 2025)

How does the M3GAN character from the 2023 Blumhouse horror film compare to other terrifying dolls in horror movies? The antagonist in M3GAN appears to be even more intelligent and threatening compared to some of the most famous ones, such as Annabelle or Chucky. A sneak peek at M3GAN 2.0 suggests that the character may be even more frightening and fashionable than in the initial movie.

During an interview with Time Magazine, Allison Williams, the actress portraying Gemma, the inventor of the M3GAN doll, discussed the chilling presence of the film’s antagonist while on set. Williams shared that the villain was downright terrifying for her.

Regardless if it was the robotic puppet or Amie Donald wearing her demonic mask, each rendition of M3gan was terrifying enough to easily evoke fear in my acting.

It isn’t always straightforward to create a sequel for every horror movie, but it’s imaginable that a whole M3GAN series could unfold. There are numerous directions these films could go, such as introducing new characters with their own creepy dolls or further developing Gemma’s storyline.

The Black Phone 2 (October 17, 2025)

In the year 2021, the movie titled “The Black Phone” hit the screens, delivering a chilling and heartbreaking narrative about children living in an oppressive household who are petrified of a mysterious character known as “The Grabber,” portrayed by Ethan Hawke. This enigmatic figure has been snatching kids from their neighborhood. Much like Stephen King’s “It” films, “The Black Phone” doesn’t sugarcoat the harsh realities of some childhood experiences.

It’s no surprise that Blumhouse, renowned for its thrilling horror films, is set to release The Black Phone 2 in autumn of 2025. Ever since the original film, fans have been eagerly waiting to see what the latest version of The Grabber will look like. One thing we can count on is that he’ll be just as menacing as before. It’s not hard to envision The Black Phone 2 matching, if not surpassing, the success of its predecessor.
