Super Saiyan 4 first appeared in the non-official series Dragon Ball GT and is known as one of the most powerful transformations in the Dragon Ball universe. It recently became officially part of the story in Dragon Ball DAIMA, Akira Toriyama’s final series, when Goku achieved this form during his battle with Gomah. While the newly canonized Super Saiyan 4 isn’t as strong as the God forms, the version from Dragon Ball GT is incredibly powerful, almost to an excessive degree.
So far, only three characters have achieved the Super Saiyan 4 transformation in both Dragon Ball DAIMA and Dragon Ball GT, even though Goku has gone through several different versions of it. If the new Dragon Ball Super: Beerus anime doesn’t include Super Saiyan 4 in the Dragon Ball Super storyline, Dragon Ball DAIMA could be the last time fans see Goku use this powerful form for a long time.
5. Super Saiyan 4 Mini Goku Finally Made SSJ4 Canon

The new series, Dragon Ball DAIMA, suggests Goku mastered Super Saiyan 4 on his own after defeating Kid Buu. However, the game Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot reveals that Goku actually needed help from Neva’s magic to first transform. During his fight with Gomah, young Goku (Mini Goku) struggles even as a Super Saiyan 3. Just when it looks like he’s going to lose, Neva unlocks his hidden potential.
Goku grows his tail back and transforms into a Super Saiyan 4 for the very first time. While in his smaller, Mini Goku form, he’s incredibly powerful, but his size limits how much of that power he can use. He battles Giant Gomah bravely, but can’t quite win. Luckily, Goku quickly gets his adult body back, allowing him to fully unleash the Super Saiyan 4 transformation as seen in Dragon Ball DAIMA.
4. Super Saiyan 4 Adult Goku Would Have Killed Giant Gomah if He Didn’t Have The Evil Third Eye

Now that he has his adult form again, Super Saiyan 4 Goku is incredibly powerful in Dragon Ball DAIMA. He easily defeats the Giant Gomah, fighting with the wild strength of a Great Ape until Gomah is completely overwhelmed. Goku’s Transcendent Power Kamehameha is so strong it shakes the entire Demon Realm and blasts a hole right through Gomah’s chest.
Goku faces a tough battle against Giant Gomah, who is made incredibly powerful by the Tertian Oculus. This ‘Evil Third Eye’ essentially makes Gomah unbeatable. The only way to defeat him is to hit a very specific spot on his neck three times – a feat only Majin Kuu manages, and even then it’s a close call. While Super Saiyan 4 Goku is more powerful overall, he can’t permanently defeat an enemy who can’t be killed.
3. Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta Caught Up To Goku With No Training
Throughout much of Dragon Ball GT, Vegeta is noticeably weaker than Goku. While he’s moved past his old competitive feelings towards Goku, he understands he needs to become more powerful when they face the Shadow Dragons. Swallowing his pride, Vegeta lets Bulma use a special machine to force him into the Super Saiyan 4 form.
It’s worth noting that Vegeta still transforms into a Golden Great Ape, meaning he actually achieves Super Saiyan 4 on his own. What really stands out about Vegeta in Dragon Ball GT is how quickly he reaches Goku’s level of power – he does it with almost no training! Even though he isn’t a central character like Goku, Pan, or Trunks, Vegeta goes from being significantly weaker than Super 17 to matching Super Saiyan 4 Goku during the fight against Omega Shenron. This gives SSJ4 Vegeta one of the most dramatic power increases in the entire Dragon Ball series, comparable to Goku’s power boost from his last Zenkai on Namek.
2. Super Saiyan 4 Goku in Dragon Ball GT is an Absolute Beast

The Super Saiyan 4 form Goku achieves in Dragon Ball GT is incredibly powerful, even more so than his Super Saiyan 4 form in Dragon Ball DAIMA. Once he unlocks this transformation, he surpasses Super Baby Vegeta 2 in strength. Interestingly, Dragon Ball GT deliberately avoids letting Super Saiyan 4 Goku definitively defeat any major villain after the Baby Saga, despite his immense power.
While Super Saiyan 4 Goku defeats several Shadow Dragons, he can’t maintain the transformation during his battles with Super 17 and Omega Shenron, forcing him to find other ways to win. This doesn’t make Super Saiyan 4 weak; in fact, Dragon Ball Heroes often shows Full Power Super Saiyan 4 being as powerful as the God forms from Dragon Ball Super, like Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue. However, it’s not as strong as Ultra Instinct or Ultra Ego.
1. Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta is One of the Strongest Characters in Dragon Ball History
In the climactic fight against Omega Shenron, Vegeta proposes that he and Goku combine their power through the Fusion Dance. This creates Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta, who is widely considered the strongest character in Dragon Ball GT and one of the most powerful fighters in the entire Dragon Ball series. SSJ4 Gogeta easily defeats Omega Shenron, skillfully avoiding his attacks and overwhelming him with superior strength.
Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta has one major weakness, just like Gotenks: he loves to joke around. Instead of finishing off Omega Shenron when he could, SSJ4 Gogeta spends too much time messing around and doesn’t defeat him before transforming back to normal. If he had just taken the fight seriously, his incredible power level would have allowed him to win instantly.
