The 7 Rarest Cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket You’ll Struggle to Find

As a Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) enthusiast, much like the real-world counterpart, my fascination often revolves around amassing unique cards instead of engaging in frequent battles. There are certain coveted cards that every player dreams of owning, but securing them can be trickier than it sounds.

The odds of finding the most uncommon cards in the Pokemon TCG Pocket are incredibly slim, almost impossible for one particular card. This rarity is what makes them so coveted, with some players showing off their good fortune (or more often, their substantial resources) by possessing these hard-to-get cards.

As a dedicated gamer, I want to clarify that this collection won’t feature any promotional cards with time limits, because, unfortunately, those aren’t accessible within the game anymore.

7. Mew ex (Gold Crown)

Mythical Island #86

Almost all the scarcest cards in the Pokemon TCG Pocket are of gold crown rarity, so these are the ones you should aim to find when opening packs. However, the Mythical Island expansion contains just one such card, making it slightly less challenging for collectors seeking a gold crown Mew ex.

In the Mythical Island packs for the Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket, there’s only a 0.040% probability of getting a gold crown Mew ex in the fourth slot. The fifth slot offers a more promising chance at 0.160%. On the other hand, God packs provide an improved chance, approximately 5.555%, for pulling a gold crown Mew ex across all five slots.

6. Palkia ex (Gold Crown)

Space-Time Smackdown #206

It came as a shock to many when they learned that the expansion for “Pokemon TCG Pocket” called Space-Time Smackdown would focus on Gen-4 Pokemon instead of the anticipated Gen-2. Some were anticipating Gen-2’s moment in the limelight, but once the decision was made, it became clear why Pakia and Dialga were chosen as the gold crown cards for this set. The developers indeed delivered as expected.

In the card game Space-Time Smackdown, there are only two golden crown cards available. The likelihood of drawing Palkia’s card in the fourth position of a standard pack is an extremely low 0.020%, but this increases to a slightly better 0.080% if you pull from the fifth slot. The chance of obtaining a golden crown version of Palkia from a God pack is 3.846%, however, players can only acquire it by opening Palkia-specific packs.

5. Dialga ex (Gold Crown)

Space-Time Smackdown #207

Just as Dialga is one of the scarcest Pokemon found in the fourth generation Pokemon games, its Gold Crown EX card is equally scarce within the Pokemon TCG Pocket. To possess this elusive card, players must be exceptionally fortunate, as the chances of obtaining it are roughly one in several thousand.

Similar to other Pokemon cards, the likelihood of drawing a Gold Crown Dialga EX card in the fourth or fifth positions of a standard pack is either 0.020% or 0.080%, regardless of which type of pack players select. However, when it comes to God packs, the only place you’ll find Gold Crown Dialga EX is in packs featuring Dialga on the front, with a chance of approximately 3.846% in any of the five slots.

4. Charizard ex (Gold Crown)

Genetic Apex #283

In the real-world Trading Card Game (TCG), Charizard cards are often highly sought after, making it no wonder that the beloved fire-type Pokemon also boasts one of the scarcest cards in the Pokemon TCG Pocket. Most players are on the hunt for the gold crown ex variant of Charizard, but their odds of acquiring it aren’t particularly high.

In a standard pack, the likelihood of pulling a Gold Crown Charizard EX card in the fourth slot is very slim, amounting to only 0.013%. However, the fifth slot presents significantly improved chances at 0.053%. In a special God Pack dedicated to Charizard, the probability of obtaining a Gold Crown Charizard EX increases substantially, with each slot offering approximately 5.000% chance. It’s worth mentioning that the overall chance of finding a God pack is still quite low at just 0.050%.

3. Pikachu ex (Gold Crown)

Genetic Apex #284

When discussing the most iconic Pokemon, there are essentially two strong candidates for the top spot. Many people recognize Charizard thanks to valuable cards in the Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG), but a much larger number can identify Pikachu due to its prominent role in the Pokemon anime and status as the unofficial series mascot. Consequently, it’s not surprising that Pikachu even has its own special Pokemon TCG Pocket card.

In a Pikachu pack, there’s a chance that the rare Gold Crown Pikachu EX can be drawn in any one of its five slots, but only if a player is extremely fortunate and opens a God pack – which has odds of 0.005%. More commonly, players will have to settle for the much lower chances of finding it in the fourth slot within regular packs (0.013%), or even slightly higher odds (0.053%) for it appearing in the fifth slot.

2. Mewtwo ex (Gold Crown)

Genetic Apex #285

The phrase “genetic apex” refers to the highest point or peak in evolution. Given this definition, it’s logical that Mewtwo was selected as one of the three cover Pokémon for the Genetic Apex set in the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, as it represents the pinnacle of evolution. This selection resulted in a special gold crown ex variant of the Mew clone card, which is among the rarest cards available in the Pokémon TCG Pocket.

The likelihood of finding a Gold Crown Mewtwo ex in regular Genetic Apex packs is extremely slim, with the fourth and fifth slot odds being only 0.013% and 0.053% respectively. Even if players open Mewtwo packs and manage to find a God pack (which isn’t common in Pokemon TCG Pocket), they will have a 5% chance of getting the Gold Crown Mewtwo ex in all five slots, but obtaining a God pack is quite rare.

1. Mew (Immersive)

Genetic Apex #286

Unlike most other scarce cards in the Pokemon TCG Pocket collection, Mew doesn’t carry a gold crown or fall under the ex category. Intriguingly, it doesn’t come from booster packs at all. Instead, you must gather one of every Gen-1 Pokemon from the Genetic Apex expansion to unlock this exceptionally rare Mew card that offers an immersive experience.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve embarked on an epic quest to collect every card from the Genetic Apex expansion in the Pokemon TCG Pocket game. While each card isn’t particularly hard to find individually, amassing them all is no walk in the park. Initially, it was estimated that it would set us back around $1,500 if we were to buy every card with real-world money post-release. But fortunately, the introduction of trading has made securing the elusive Mew a bit more achievable and immersive.
