As the Straw Hats finally reach Elbaf, One Piece enthusiasts are now privy to the gradual revelation of one of the series’ most enigmatic locales. Yet, it’s not just the power of the giants that captivates; the Adam Tree, renowned as the strongest and most legendary tree worldwide, is another aspect of Elbaf that piques interest.
The venerable tree from long ago supplied the timber for the initial vessel that navigated to Laugh Tale, known as the Oro Jackson. However, its importance might extend much further than boat construction. The latest chapter (1138) of the manga hints that the Adam Tree could be tied to aspects of the One Piece lore, such as the Void Century, the Ancient Kingdom, and the legacy of Joy Boy.
The old tree used in building the first ship to reach Laugh Tale, Oro Jackson, might have a deeper meaning than just being a shipbuilding material. The recent manga chapter 1138 suggests that this tree could be connected to stories and secrets from One Piece’s history, like the Void Century, the Ancient Kingdom, and the legacy of Joy Boy.
The Adam Tree Has Gone Through The Test Of Time
The Dream Tree Of Every Pirate

In the world of One Piece, the mighty Adam Tree stands out as one of the scarcest trees. Over countless ages, it has endured through the tumult of the universe, remaining steadfast amidst the turmoil. It survived the Void Century, witnessed the emergence of the World Government, and lived on during the Golden Age of Piracy, demonstrating that it’s not merely a typical tree but also a bearer of history. Ships crafted from its wood are incredibly resistant to damage. The flagship of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, was constructed using timber from this very special tree.
The name of the ship was Oro Jackson, crafted by renowned shipbuilder Tom from Water 7. Notably, the Oro Jackson is the sole vessel to have navigated Laugh Tale. Given its frequent encounters with unpredictable weather on the Grand Line, it’s no surprise that this sturdy ship has weathered some of the toughest seas. Similarly, the Straw Hat crew’s ship, Thousand Sunny, was manufactured using Warland Kingdom’s Adam Wood. The shipbuilder, Franky, took special care to use wood from a specific tree to ensure its durability in the harshest seas and against the strongest adversaries. Franky aimed to construct a ship that reflected Luffy’s dream – a vessel capable of reaching the farthest corners of the world without ever succumbing to the pressures placed upon it.
Every pirate yearns for the finest vessel to sail through the perilous waters of the Grand Line. As such, the Adam Tree is highly sought after by many pirates and is often traded illegally. Scattered throughout the Grand Line are numerous Adam Trees, with the one in Warland being particularly renowned. Franky acquired the timber for Thousand Sunny from Warland. Notably, the Adam Tree in Elbaf is the oldest and largest in the series, leading one to speculate that its roots may have spread across the Grand Line.
The Importance Of The Adam Tree In Elbaf
Loki Of The Underworld

As a passionate explorer, it’s no surprise that I find myself drawn to the legendary land of Elbaf – a realm where strength and honor are revered above all else. It’s only fitting, then, that the mightiest tree on Earth calls this place home. Known as the Adam tree, its grandeur is such that giants, with their centuries-long lifespans, would view it as a hallowed entity.
The resonances between the mythology of the Norsemen and Elbaf’s Adam tree are too profound to overlook. In ancient Norse tales, Yggdrasil stands as the world tree – a sacred, everlasting tree that links various realms. Legends claim it contains all knowledge, history, and even destiny within its roots and branches.
In the story of One Piece, the Adam tree consists of three distinct realms: the Sun Realm, the Astral Realm, and the Underworld. The Sun Realm resides at the mid-level, inhabited by giants; the Astral Realm is situated at the treetop, making it the canopy level and the highest part of the tree; whereas, the Underworld lies at the base of the tree. At present, Loki, also known as the kingslayer and son of King Harold, is imprisoned in the Underworld.
At present, Loki is imprisoned in the Underworld, having been shackled there for numerous years due to his transgressions. In the throne room, he ruthlessly slaughtered several Elbaf warriors, but eventually succumbed to Shanks and was bound to a tree. This tree, remarkable for its durability, prevents Loki from breaking free because of its resilience, thus safeguarding the remaining giants from any potential harm as he has done in the past. Although the extent of Loki’s power remains unclear, it is believed that his abilities are connected to his eyes, which were sewn shut using fabric. Loki’s Devil Fruit possesses immense power and could potentially bring about the devastation of Elbaf. Even the Holy Knight acknowledges Loki’s significance and seeks to enlist him as a member of the Celestial Dragons in order to wield control over Elbaf.
The Mural Of The Old World
The Connection to History and the Void Century

In chapter 1138, Franky discovers an old mural during his journey with Ripley. Simultaneously, Robin unearths an ancient Harley manuscript detailing past events and a forthcoming prophecy. Initially, Ripley dismisses the mural as mere child’s play, but it carries a hidden meaning. The mural was drawn by ancient giants to relay information about wars that once devastated the world. Similarly, the Harley manuscript reveals details about two past wars, their connection, vague descriptions of the involved races or people, and how the world met its demise.
The ancient tree known as Adam has persisted through many changes, while much else has been lost or altered. It’s plausible that the significance of the Adam tree and the Harley texts, which contain various interpretations of the past, was to convey a message about a future renaissance that is still to unfold. An alternative idea is that perhaps Elbaf holds other secrets from the past, and the ruling powers are determined to conceal these truths at any cost. In light of this, they enlist the Holy Knights, tasking them with recruiting one of Elbaf’s mightiest inhabitants – Loki. If the World Government is intent on erasing history, then annihilating Elbaf and the Adam Tree to bury its secrets seems like a logical course of action.
After all, Dr Vegapunk has already revealed too much of the past in the Egghead arc.
Additionally, some portion of the legendary tree known as Adam might have been incorporated into the ancient warship called Pluton, a highly advanced vessel with devastating capabilities. This implies that the tree could have contributed to the construction of ancient ships or weapons due to its indestructible nature in times long past. Given the Straw Hats’ current presence in Elbaf and an impending disaster looming over the fold, it is possible that hidden truths about the Adam tree will be unveiled. Similar to Yggdrasil in Norse mythology, it could serve as a conduit connecting the past, present, and future.
