As a huge fan of both Assassin’s Creed and Magic: The Gathering, I couldn’t be more excited about this recent collaboration between the two franchises! Assassin’s Creed Shadows is already generating a lot of buzz with its upcoming release in feudal Japan, but in the meantime, the Magic: The Gathering crossover provides an excellent way to satiate my craving for the stealth-action series.

In the upcoming season, Assassin’s Creed is set to continue its intriguing journey, with the latest installment, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, scheduled for release this Fall. Over almost two decades, Ubisoft’s flagship stealth-action franchise has evolved continuously by refining its core gameplay elements and building on its rich narrative about the centuries-long struggle between the Templars and Assassins. More recently, Assassin’s Creed branched out into a new domain by introducing an expansion for the collectible card game, Magic: The Gathering.

Magic: The Gathering, established earlier than Assassin’s Creed, has consistently expanded its intricately imagined Multiverse through new collections since its inception. In 2021, Wizards of the Coast introduced projects like Secret Lair and Universes Beyond, which integrated popular franchises such as Doctor Who, The Walking Dead, and Stranger Things. It was only a matter of time before video game worlds and characters joined this crossover trend. Now, Assassin’s Creed is the latest addition to MTG‘s roster. With the excitement surrounding AC Shadows and other upcoming projects, the timing for this collaboration couldn’t be better.

In August 2, 2024, the main storyline of “Magic: The Gathering” named “Bloomburrow” is scheduled to be released. On the other hand, “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” is slated for release on November 15, 2024.

Assassin’s Creed’s Magic: The Gathering Collaboration Strikes at a Great Moment

Magic: The Gathering is on a Streak of High-Profile Videogame Collaborations

Beyond the “Assassin’s Creed” collection, Magic: The Gathering has offered various other gaming-themed sets throughout its history. Examples include:

  • Fallout (Commander Decks)
  • League of Legends
  • Street Fighter
  • Tomb Raider
  • Final Fantasy (coming in 2025)

As a passionate fan of crossovers, I can’t help but be excited about how they bring new experiences to the table for both novice and seasoned fans alike! The AC collection is truly a gem in this regard, offering not one, but two ready-to-play decks specifically designed to showcase iconic aspects from each property within the realm of Magic: The Gathering‘s mechanics and rules. This unique blending creates an engaging crossover experience that is sure to captivate and delight fans of both worlds!

In a captivating and clear manner: This deck showcases renowned Assassin’s Creed figures, landscapes, and artifacts, transforming them into Magic: The Gathering functions and abilities that embody the essence of their unique game world. An intriguing feature exclusive to the Assassin’s Creed collection is the inclusion of cards printed in native languages of the associated characters; for instance, a version of Leonardo da Vinci’s card inscribed with Italian text.

The Assassin’s Creed x Magic: The Gathering Crossover Gives the Former a Big Boost

Fans of “Assassin’s Creed” have been eagerly anticipating a journey to feudal-era Japan ever since it was first rumored, and with the official reveal of “Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” that wish is finally coming true. The game has generated significant excitement leading up to its release, following a detailed unveiling at Ubisoft Forward in June. However, fans will have to wait a few more months before they can explore this new setting for themselves. In the meantime, they might consider checking out the “Assassin’s Creed” crossover with “Magic: The Gathering.” This collaboration does an impressive job of capturing the core elements of the game series.

There are several other projects related to the “Assassin’s Creed” franchise that have been announced, including the Animus Hub, formerly known as Infinity. Although the details are not yet clear, it is believed that this platform will serve as a launchpad for potential multiplayer experiences within the Assassin’s Creed universe or connect various stories and spin-offs. The next confirmed release is assumed to be “Assassin’s Creed Hexe,” with a possible 2026 launch window, although this has not been officially confirmed. With the buzz surrounding “AC” at an all-time high, the recent Magic: The Gathering crossover helps keep the series in the limelight and maintain the momentum it has gained throughout the year.
