The popular and beloved sitcom Friends is back on Netflix after being temporarily unavailable. The show, which originally premiered on the platform in 2015 and ran for 10 seasons, has always been a hit with viewers, so many were disappointed when it was removed on December 30, 2025. Now, fans can once again enjoy iconic moments, including Ross Geller’s famous lines.

Friends originally aired on NBC for ten seasons, from September 22, 1994, to May 6, 2006. Over time, it became a hugely popular and comforting show for many. Given its lasting worldwide appeal and consistent performance as one of Netflix’s most-watched programs, its return to the streaming service isn’t surprising.

Friends’ Departure And Return To Netflix

Recently, the streaming service removed Friends from its catalog in several countries, including the UK, Germany, Italy, South Africa, and Switzerland, at the end of 2025. However, as many predicted, Netflix has renewed the license for the show, making all seasons available again starting March 31st. According to TIME, Friends first became available on Netflix on January 1, 2015, and the streaming service announced the addition on what was then Twitter (now X) on October 15, 2015.

All 236 episodes of Friends became available for streaming at the same time. The show was also a huge hit on Netflix in the U.K. In the first three months after its addition to the platform in January 2018, Friends was the most-streamed show, beating out popular series like The Grand Tour, The Crown, Stranger Things, and Peaky Blinders, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The show Friends centers around a close-knit group of friends living in New York City. It begins with Rachel Green, who starts as a spoiled runaway bride and evolves into a successful fashion professional. After leaving her fiancé at the wedding, Rachel runs into Monica Geller, a childhood friend, and the two become roommates.

Monica, portrayed by Courtney Cox, is like the mother figure of the group, and her apartment – famously decorated with purple walls – is where everyone loves to gather, alongside the coffee shop Central Perk. Equally important are the other members of this close-knit group: Monica’s older brother, Ross (David Schwimmer), who begins the series as a newly divorced paleontologist. Living across the hall from them are Ross’ college roommate, the incredibly funny Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry), and Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc), an actor trying to make it big. Rounding out the group is Monica’s former roommate, Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow), a quirky massage therapist with a unique and interesting past.

Fans are thrilled to have Friends back on Netflix, thanks to the creators Marta Kuffman and David Crane, and producer Kevin S. Bright.
