As a devoted fan, I can’t help but share my excitement about the release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which hit the shelves not long after the Nintendo Switch made its grand debut. This isn’t just an upgraded version of the original Wii U game, oh no! It’s a remastered powerhouse that includes all the downloadable content right out of the box. Characters from other beloved franchises have also joined the race, with Link from The Legend of Zelda and Isabelle from Animal Crossing adding their unique flair to the tracks. Now, just imagine my delight when I learned that Mario Kart World will be available on day one for the Switch 2! It’s safe to say that the future of kart racing looks brighter than ever!

Despite lacking characters from other popular Nintendo series, Mario Kart World introduces a multitude of fresh faces never before seen in the Mario Kart universe. Each character essentially plays the same, but let’s evaluate and rank the top characters in Mario Kart World based on their personalities, designs, and the costumes they can wear.

8. Baby Mario

Just Look At That Nose

As a devoted fan, I recall the delightful introduction of the adorable Baby Mario in “Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island” on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Since then, he’s become an endearing fixture in Mario’s diverse spin-off series. In the thrilling world of Mario Kart, I particularly appreciate Baby Mario due to his diminutive stature, offering a more expansive view of the race and adding an exciting element of strategy to the gameplay.

In an equally charming manner, Baby Mario looks fantastic with his sibling, Baby Luigi, due to their oversized rounded noses. Out of all the outfits worn by Baby Mario, his Swimwear is undeniably the most appealing. It would be great if one of these competitors could treat Baby Mario to a beach trip after a game.

7. Luigi

A Brother Full Of Whimsy

Initially sharing the stage with Mario in “Super Mario Bros.”, Luigi’s distinct qualities became more apparent in “Super Mario Bros. 2”, particularly through his impressive leaping abilities. In spin-offs and the majority of main series games, however, Luigi’s character evolved to portray fear. This fearful personality is not a constant trait across all games, with an exception being the racing game series.

In the game “Mario Kart World,” Luigi appears to be incredibly cheerful, even performing small dances that add to his enjoyment as a character to control. His various costumes are numerous, but his Gondolier outfit is particularly amusing and suits him well for weekend boat driving jobs, especially for romantic couples.

6. Toad

Order Up!

In the world of Super Mario Bros., Toad initially served as a misleading clue, always directing Mario or Luigi towards another castle where Princess Peach supposedly resided. However, Toad had his own lucky break, similar to Luigi, in Super Mario Bros. 2. This character is renowned for being iconic within the Mario series, alongside his fellow Toads, and he was among the first to become a part of this spinoff racing franchise.

Listening to Toad’s cheerful peeps as you race through tracks in the Mario Kart World is always entertaining. He also boasts quite an array of cool outfits, such as Burger Bud with his scrumptious-looking hat, and Explorer, a playful reference to Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.

5. Yoshi

More Than Color Variants

Initially, Yoshi made his debut as a rideable character for both Mario and Luigi in the game “Super Mario World”. Subsequently, he gained independent titles, ranging from platform games to puzzle games. Instead of simply providing Yoshi with different color variations in the game “Mario Kart World”, Nintendo could have opted for using costumes reminiscent of the original three colors (blue, yellow, and red) seen in “Super Mario World”.

It’s fortunate that they provided Yoshi with multiple color options when designing his outfits, such as the Touring one, which has a cool glacier blue hue, and the Soft Server, sporting a vibrant hot pink shade.

4. Wario

The Pirate King

Wario’s laugh is incredibly contagious across the entire franchise. He initially made his debut as a villain in “Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins”, later transitioning to become a playable character, marking a significant shift in the series’ narrative. The “Wario Land” games often revolve around Wario pursuing piles of treasure, and this pirate-themed persona in “Mario Kart World” seems fittingly appropriate for him.

Wario might be a bit tricky to handle in the game due to his substantial size, but his legendary status as a villain – with his chuckles and mischievous actions – outshines even Bowser’s antics. That’s what makes him an enjoyable character to play.

3. Donkey Kong

The Dab King

In the realm of Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong is among the select characters who’ve undergone a facelift, and it appears this revamped style may be sticking around for future games. Initially introduced as the antagonist to Jump Man (an early form of Mario) in the original Donkey Kong game, many fondly recall their interactions with Donkey Kong and his kin from the beloved Donkey Kong Country series.

In Mario Kart World, it’s peculiar that Nintendo didn’t offer many costumes for Donkey Kong, but I’m perfectly content with his classic appearance. This fabulous ape can flaunt his dabbing moves all day long, showing off his stylish tie and rugged fur on the track with pride!

2. Waluigi

Best Puns In The Biz

Originally, Waluigi made his debut in the game “Mario Tennis” for the N64. While Wario is generally more enjoyable to control in most games, Waluigi outshines him particularly in the “Mario Kart World” and other racing spinoffs due to his quirky appearance.

Due to his tall and lanky physique, Waluigi seems quite uncomfortable while driving a kart. In spite of his vehicle not accommodating him well, he persists and remains determined, for victory runs in his veins. Interestingly, the costume Wampire is one of Waluigi’s favorites.

1. Daisy

A Great Redesign Full Of Life

In the realm of Mario Kart World, Daisy underwent a transformation, both visually and in terms of her character. Originally introduced as a princess in Super Mario Land, Daisy was often considered a younger version of Peach, with only minor differences.

In Mario Kart World, Daisy’s youthful radiance was amplified a whopping 100 times with her updated appearance, making her seem even more youthful and full of life. She perfectly encapsulates the essence of fun within this series, which is why players find it effortless to connect with her. Among the female characters in the game, Daisy stands out for her exceptional fashion sense, as demonstrated by her Oasis, Swimwear, and Touring outfits. It’s an incredibly tough decision to pick just one!
