The Best Fights In The Demon Slayer Series

Whenever Ufotable is associated with an anime, I can expect a visually stunning experience. From the Demon Slayer series to several others like the Fate series and God Eater, they’ve earned a strong reputation for creating spectacular anime scenes.

In Demon Slayer, the animation is breathtakingly beautiful, particularly during battle sequences. But what truly sets these fights apart isn’t just the visually striking elements; it’s the significance and impact behind each collision. Each confrontation carries significant weight due to the high stakes involved. The survival of humanity rests on defeating even a single demon in this series.

Here are some of the best fights in the series.

10.
Tanjiro Vs. Kyogai

Season 1, Episode 11

During Tanjiro’s adventure at the Tsuzumi mansion, an essential phase in his quest to restore Nezuko’s human nature unfolded. Accompanied by a medical expert who happened to be a demon, Tamayo, he embarked on this journey because she required the blood of one from the group of 12 powerful demons, known as kizuki, to develop a cure for Nezuko’s affliction.

Therefore, during this episode, it wasn’t just about rescuing people for Tanjiro when he was sent to explore the demon situation. The demon in question, Kyogai, carries tsuzumi drums within him, each drum manipulating the space around and potentially teleporting either his opponents or victims.

In the midst of their fierce battle, Tanjiro managed to rescue several civilians as well. Later on, he cleverly discovered a weakness in Kyogai’s demonic abilities and defeated him by using a powerful stream of water.

9.
Tanjiro And Nezuko Vs. Rui

Season 1, Episode 19

As I found myself ensnared by the intricate webs of Rui, a lower-rank demon on Mount Natagumo, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease alongside my brother Nezuko. It seemed that this particular demon, with his fixation on family, had meticulously constructed a makeshift family structure to satisfy his own desires for happiness.

In the intense battle against Riu’s lethal Blood Demon Art, Tanjiro was pushed to his absolute limit. At his weakest moment, Nezuko stepped in, unleashing her own Blood Demon Art to shield her brother. What sets this fight apart is that Rui’s concept of family is a twisted reflection of the values Tanjiro and Nezuko uphold.

In simpler terms, Riu feels strongly that family ties are built on obedience and submission, and that suffering is essential for fostering loyalty. Consequently, Tanjiro and Nezuko’s unconditional love infuriates Rui even further, while the awareness that he cannot replicate such love leaves him shattered, more fragile than a blade could ever make him.

8.
The Demon Slayer Vs. Muzan Kibutsuji

Season 4, Episode 8 (Hashira Training Arc)

The climactic confrontation against Muzan at the culmination of the Hashira training arc is the pinnacle that the Demon Slayer storyline has been gradually leading to. In an unexpected turn of events, when Muzan attacked Kagaya Ubuyashiki, the leader of the Demon Slayer Corps, he performed an unimaginable act and detonated himself, with Muzan still trapped within.

As soon as the blast took place, the demon hunters swiftly moved towards the scene, marking the start of their fierce battle with Muzan. This battle held significant weight, as its outcome would decide whether or not they could finally put an end to the demonic curse that had long tormented mankind.

Despite the demon slayers’ best efforts, Muzan’s remarkable regenerative powers, backed by seven hearts and five brains, proved too formidable to defeat the Demon King. Realizing they couldn’t kill him, the demon slayers opted to delay their confrontation until sunrise. However, Muzan outsmarted them all, leading them into a seemingly impenetrable Infinity Castle, brimming with high-ranking demons.

7.
Tanjiro, Nezuko, Genya, and Mitsuri Vs. Hatengu

Season 3, Episode 3 (Swordsmith Village Arc)

Instead of being a sanctuary shielded from demons, unexpectedly, the secluded Blacksmith Village turned into a battleground when higher-tier demons, Hatengu and Gyokko, managed to infiltrate it. Previously tranquil, this haven of craftsmanship was now a scene of conflict. Tanjiro, Nezuko, Genya, and the divine-level swordsman Mitsuri confronted Hatengu, but his powerful Blood Demon Art poses a formidable challenge.

Whenever I confront Hatengu as a Demon Slayer, he fragmentarily duplicates, manifesting as replicas symbolizing distinct emotions. Over time, the Love Hashira battles these demonic clones to delay them, while Tanjiro and the team search frantically for Hatengu’s true physical form.

The fight gained such strength was due to the unwavering unity and tenacity invested in overcoming Hatengu, despite the long, seemingly interminable nights.

6.
Tengen Uzui, Tanjiro Vs. Gyutaro

Season 2, Episode 10 (Entertainment District Arc)

In the arc known as Entertainment District, the slayer team faces off against the formidable demon siblings Daki and Gyutaro. After an intense exchange of swordplay, demonic abilities, and counterattacks, the slayers are left defeated. Even the top-tier Slayer, Tengen, succumbs to his injuries โ€“ a lost arm and poison coursing through his body.

Following this pattern, it was up to the injured Tanjiro to halt Gyutaro’s destructive spree. Yet, he couldn’t sustain his defense for a prolonged period. Interestingly, Tengen entered the fray, engaging Gyutaro with only one arm and tainted blood.

In this individual battle between a high-ranking demon and a sound pillar character, the visuals are incredibly intense and it’s a spectacle that stands out vividly in the show. The fight between Tengen and Gyutaro was a wild one, and with Tanjiro and their companions joining in, they managed to sever the heads of both Daki and Gyutaro simultaneously.

5.
Muichiro Tokito And Gyokko

Season 3, Episode 5 (Swordsmith Village Arc)

As a gamer, there’s nothing quite like watching the unsuspecting, low-key character in an anime series suddenly shine in combat. Take Tokito, for instance โ€“ he’s the quiet mist hashira, but when it comes to battle, his moves are anything but ordinary. He unleashed an array of powerful attacks with pinpoint precision and even activated his demon slayer mark, turning the fight into a spectacle that left me in awe.

Regarding Gyokko, his blood demon techniques were unsettlingly macabre. This demon is fixated on creating aesthetic manifestations, utilizing vase gateways, summoning fish, and employing poison needles, all while transforming its form into hideous shapes.

The struggle intensified as Gyokko ensnared Tokito within a water pool shaped like a vase, covered in needles. As Tokito struggled for air inside Gyokko’s malevolent artwork, he summoned his second form that releases mist to break free. Eventually, Tokito’s lethal attacks prevailed over Gyokko, culminating in the decapitation of the upper-rank demon.

4.
Rengoku Vs. Akaza

Season 2, Episode 6 (Mugen Train)

Similar to numerous others, the objective aboard the Mugen Train is to safeguard humans and vanquish demons. The fiery Hashira, Rengoku, embarked upon this train together with Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu, aiming to uncover the mystery behind the vanishing passengers.

They come across Enmu, a lesser demon who captivates travelers within their dreams. Eventually, they manage to overcome him. Yet, another demon named Akaza appeared; immediately, Rengoku realized that this fresh danger was significantly stronger, as Akaza belonged to the higher echelon of demons.

In their fierce battle, it was evident that Akaza was an expert in martial arts and possessed extraordinary healing abilities. Throughout the combat, Akaza acknowledged Rengoku’s passion and presented him with eternal life rather than becoming a Demon Slayer.

In his role as the last barrier, Rengoku understood he was protecting Tanjiro, their companions, and the train passengers. He fought valiantly until there was no more strength left in him. Rengoku’s heroic stand is deeply moving, and eventually, Akaza retreats from the lethal sunset effects to avoid the demons.

3.
Zenitsu Vs. The Son Of Rui, The Spider Demon

Season 1, Episode 17

In my gaming experience, the epic battles in the Demon Slayer series wouldn’t have been as memorable without Zenitsu’s incredible Thunder Breathing technique taking down that spider demon offspring at Mount Natagumo. Unlike other Demon Slayers who charge into fights fearlessly, Zenitsu steps up when his terror gets the best of him and he faints.

Consequently, ordinary Zenitsu panicked and ran in terror upon meeting the menacing demon. Moreover, this demon was unsettling, possessing the ominous ability to poison its victims, controlling their movements, causing paralysis, and transforming them into spider-like beings.

When Zenitsu lost consciousness, the demon’s time expired. In an instant, he decapitated the demon using his thunder-infused form. The spectacle of Zenitsu’s lightning-fast attacks, swift movement, and high leap against the backdrop of the moon was captivating, culminating in a fitting conclusion to their battle.

2.
Obanai And Sanemi Vs. The Hordes of Demons

Season 4, Episode 1 (Hashira Training Arc)

In the initial sequence of the Hashira Training Arc, viewers were treated to an impressive display, as it marked the first time these particular hashiras engaged in battle. Sanami and Obanai demonstrated remarkable skills in their unique wind and snake-style breath techniques respectively.

Sanemi and Obanai proved to be an unbeatable team, effortlessly handling even minor demon adversaries. Their prowess was evident, showcasing their combined strength. The battle didn’t linger on-screen for long as the demons were swiftly absorbed into the Infinity Castle.

In this episode, the fight sequences and coordination were exceptionally well-executed and precise, much like numerous battles seen throughout the series. Above all, it showcased the skills of the two main characters.

1.
Giyu Tomioka Vs. Tanjiro

Season 1, Episode 1

Initially in this series, upon reaching his house, Tanjiro discovers that his whole family has been brutally killed. The only exception is his sister, Nezuko, who has transformed into a demon. At first, Nezuko seemed inclined to attack Tanjiro, her brother, but she managed to resist the impulse.

At that instant, Giyu emerged with the intention of slaying Nezuko. Yet, Tanjiro valiantly intervened to protect his sister against the Hashira, despite the battle being overwhelmingly in favor of Giyu.

In a bid to rescue his sister, Nezuko, Tanjiro caught Giyu off guard with his keen intuition and strategic deception during their battle. It turned out that Nezuko, rather than attempting to feed on Giyu, attacked him in an effort to shield her brother.

Consequently, this was the initiation point for Tanjiro’s journey as a Demon Slayer, seeking a remedy for his sister and providing an impactful introduction for the series, emphasizing the strong bond between them.
