The Best First-Person Fantasy Games Of All Time

Many of the most popular fantasy games are action role-playing games (RPGs) played from a third-person perspective. A prime example from Western developers is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a fantastic offering from Japan. Beyond traditional RPGs, there are also incredible fantasy games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild that offer a unique experience.

Outside of well-known series, there aren’t many fantasy games played from a first-person perspective. While the selection is limited, the best ones truly stand out, whether they focus on action-packed shooting or the traditional role-playing experience. Honestly, this game has one of the most creative magic systems I’ve seen in a shooter in ages. The weapons aren’t traditional guns, but that actually adds to the unique feel. I love that I can not only blast enemies with magic, but also whip out a shield to defend myself. And the whole loop of finding cool loot, experimenting with different character builds, and upgrading everything is super addictive – it’s a really satisfying single-player experience.

7. Dragon Quest Builders 2

Minecraft With A Purpose

In Dragon Quest Builders 2, you create your own character and embark on a journey through diverse landscapes. Your mission is to protect villages from monsters and restore them to their former glory.

While each section of the game offers a slightly unique experience, players can generally look forward to a satisfying mix of combat, creating items, and construction. The game works well whether you choose to play in third-person or first-person, making Dragon Quest Builders 2 a worthy addition to this list. Any collection of fantasy games would be incomplete without a Dragon Quest title.

The Etrian Odyssey series is known for being a tough and intricate dungeon crawler, and if you’re new to the franchise, Etrian Odyssey 4: Legends of the Titan is a great place to start, despite being a 3DS exclusive.
