2025 will be the fifth year since the PlayStation 5 first launched in 2020. While they were difficult to get initially, PS5 consoles are now readily available, though they are quite expensive. PlayStation fans generally expect the next console, the PS6, to be released soon, as consoles typically last six to seven years.
Over the past five years, how many truly exclusive games has the PS5 delivered to its fans? By ‘exclusive,’ we mean games that haven’t been released on the older PS4 or on PC. While some of the best PS5 titles, like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, are now available on multiple platforms, let’s take a look at which games have stayed exclusive to the PS5 so far.
Ghost Of Yotei
So Far, So Good
I first played Ghost of Tsushima when it came out on PlayStation 4, and then they released an even better version for PC too. Now, the sequel, Ghost of Yotei, is only on PS5 right now, but everyone’s saying it’s going to be huge when it launches in 2025. Honestly, it’s not hard to see why – it’s another incredible open-world game set in old Japan, and it just looks amazing.
The game introduces a new protagonist named Atsu and takes place centuries after the events of the first Ghost of Tsushima. You don’t need to have played the original game to enjoy it! While those familiar with the first game will find this sequel offers more of what they loved, but improved. Expect a wider variety of weapons, stunning visuals, and fast loading times that will get you right into the action – it has the potential to be one of the greatest games on PS5.
Astro Bot
Outclassing Mario
PlayStation 5 owners have two charming games to enjoy featuring the Astro Bots. Astro’s Playroom was a free game included with the PS5 at launch and served as a great preview of what was to come. Although brief, it’s worth playing. But the standout title is Astro Bot, released in 2024, which quickly became a fan favorite.
The event was a full-on celebration of PlayStation, showcasing everything from console parts to adorable robot versions of famous game characters. But the real fun came from the game itself. It featured clever and creative level design with just the right amount of challenge – not too easy, but not frustratingly difficult. It’s a game clearly made with love by dedicated fans, and it’s hard to picture it being created for any other system.
Death Stranding 2: On The Beach
Delivering PS5-Tier Quality
Originally launched only for PlayStation 4, Death Stranding is now available on PC and Xbox. The upcoming Death Stranding 2: On the Beach may follow a similar path, but currently, it’s a PlayStation 5 exclusive set to release in 2025. The game picks up Sam’s story, tasking him with delivering packages and connecting facilities across Mexico and Australia.
Players explore varied landscapes like deserts, mountains, and rivers while carrying a load of items. This game offers quicker ways to overcome obstacles compared to its predecessor. Several improvements have been made to make the game smoother and more enjoyable, especially when discovering new features – like a coffin you can actually ride as a surfboard later on!
Demon’s Souls
From The PS3 To The PS5
For over ten years, Demon’s Souls was only available on the PlayStation 3. Then, it was completely rebuilt for the PlayStation 5 and became a must-have game at the console’s launch, exceeding the expectations of longtime fans.
Okay, so the remake mostly stays true to the original, which I really appreciate – they’ve just updated the visuals. They did make a few little changes to how it plays, though, to make everything feel a bit more polished. Honestly, it’s still one of the most challenging Souls-like games FromSoftware has ever created, and that’s a big part of why I – and a lot of other dedicated fans – love it so much! It’s frustrating, but in the best way. It’s a shame that Bloodborne is still stuck on the PS4, even if you can play it on the PS5 now. As a PC gamer, I’m really hoping we’ll finally get to see both the Demon’s Souls remake and Bloodborne on platforms like Steam soon. Come on, FromSoftware, please!
Destruction AllStars
A Twisted Reboot
I remember when Destruction AllStars came out – it was right around the launch of the PS5. It felt like a new take on Twisted Metal, but with a bit of a Fortnite vibe. Everything was super colorful and a little more lighthearted, and they definitely dialed back the over-the-top violence.
Okay, so this game doesn’t have huge open worlds – everything happens in these arena-style levels. It’s not exactly the Twisted Metal revival a lot of us PlayStation fans were hoping for, but it’s still a pretty fun take on that style of game. The biggest bummer is the online servers went offline in 2024, which is a shame. But honestly, the single-player is still worth checking out. And with the servers gone, it’s pretty safe to say we won’t be seeing this one on any other consoles.
R-Type Final 3 Evolved
A Blast From The Past
Shoot ’em ups, often called SHMUPs, were incredibly popular in the 1980s, 90s, and early 2000s. The R-Type series was a major hit, and though it’s not as prominent as it once was in arcades, it still gets new releases. R-Type Final 3 Evolved is the newest one, and it’s only available on the PlayStation 5.
Released in 2023, R-Type Final 3 Evolved likely didn’t get much attention – it’s tough for smaller games to stand out these days. However, it’s a fantastic find for fans of shoot ’em ups (SHMUPs). The game features exciting, over-the-top action, precise controls, and helpful upgrades, making it a surprisingly easy game to pick up and a perfect starting point for anyone new to the genre.
