While it might not appeal to hardcore fighting game players, this SNES game is a great experience for Power Rangers fans, and it’s surprisingly accessible – you don’t need to be an expert to enjoy it.

The Fighting Edition isn’t groundbreaking, but it’s a solid game that doesn’t make any major mistakes. While the combat is simple, the animations are good. The Story Mode feels like a traditional Arcade Mode with some added cutscenes, and it successfully captures the fun spirit of Power Rangers. 4. Power Rangers: Battle For The Grid

A Fighting Game For Fans

The core idea behind Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid is immediately exciting: it’s a continuation of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers story. The game imagines a dark twist where Tommy, instead of joining the good guys, defeats Rita Repulsa and most of the Power Rangers. He then becomes Lord Drakkon and leads an invasion of the Rangers’ world, which is where Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid begins.

This fighting game features three-on-three battles, much like the Marvel Vs. Capcom series, and includes helpful assist characters. When it first launched, the game didn’t have many characters, which hurt its initial popularity. But over time, with new seasons, they added more characters and content, creating a more satisfying experience for fans. Considering that it’s the only console game the franchise has released in the 2020s so far, and likely the best since the 1990s, it stands out. However, if you just look at it as a beat ’em up, it’s pretty good, but could have been even better.

Don’t expect this game to be as polished as titles like TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge or Marvel Cosmic Invasion, or you might be disappointed. But if you’re simply looking for a fun way to celebrate the original series, this game delivers. It’s best enjoyed with a friend, but you can also play Rita’s Rewind by yourself, choosing from 6 different characters. The combat is easy to pick up and satisfying, and it’s good enough to make you want to play through it again.

Based on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, it’s primarily a fighting game that holds up remarkably well for a handheld release from the mid-1990s. The graphics are decent, the fighting is fun and challenging, and the music is excellent – it’s sure to please fans of the original series.

The story mode lets you switch between playing as a Ranger and a Megazord through several levels. While the gameplay is straightforward, it’s effective and keeps the story from feeling drawn out. Each Ranger feels unique enough to make replaying the campaign enjoyable.
