The Best Starting Location in Satisfactory Isn’t Grass Fields

The Best Starting Location in Satisfactory Isn’t Grass Fields

As a seasoned Satisfactory player with countless hours spent traversing the game’s diverse landscapes since its Early Access days, I can confidently say that the Dune Desert is the best starting location for any new pioneer.

When you fire up Satisfactory for the first time, whether you’re a fresh player or one returning following the 1.0 release, you’ll encounter some choices to make. Kicking off a new adventure, you’ll find four maps to pick from: Grass Fields, Rocky Desert, Northern Forest, and Dune Desert. For beginners just starting out, the Grass Fields is suggested as the ideal launchpad. If you’re looking for another solid option, the Rocky Desert is also recommended. However, I’d like to share an alternative starting spot in Satisfactory that’s been a favorite among players since its Early Access days!

Where to Start in Satisfactory

The Best Starting Location in Satisfactory Isn’t Grass Fields

As a fellow enthusiast, I’d like to suggest an exciting twist to your adventure: Instead of picking the common starting points—Grass Fields or Rocky Desert—consider embarking on your journey from the Dune Desert instead. While it presents a tougher terrain for power generation, as hinted in the game, it also provides ample room for constructing a sizable factory. Moreover, within easy reach of your initial spawn, you’ll come across several valuable resources crucial for progressing into the mid- and late-game stages. Good luck, and may your factory flourish!

In the game, it’s challenging to locate late-game resources like oil and uranium for power generation, as they are not readily available. While you can find them, it will require a bit more exploration. However, this challenge is common to all starting locations, as each one has its own advantages and disadvantages that must be carefully considered.

By the close of play, your initial position in Satisfactory can be influenced by your personal preference for difficulty. If you’re up for a tougher experience, I’d suggest the Dune Desert without hesitation. However, if you prefer a more relaxed introduction to the game, learning its mechanics at a gentle pace, then the Grass Fields are often favored by novice players.

Satisfactory Starting Tips and Tricks

  • Take your time! There’s no rush in Satisfactory, as you can build the factory of your dreams slowly, expanding across the planet and progressing to the next tech level at your pace.
  • Unless they altered any values recently, the biomass burner on the hub isn’t as efficient as the one you can build, so consider using your resources wisely.
  • You need power for everything in Satisfactory, and the starting materials—leaves and wood—won’t suffice. You must automate biomass and use that to burn for energy.
  • You can deconstruct any structure and receive a full refund, so don’t worry about where you place everything now. You can beautify and focus on efficiency down the line.
